The Fed Chairman's expected to tell
lawmakers he remains concerned but will

steer clear of declaring a recession.

Every day seems to bring more bad news.
Home foreclosures have swelled to

record highs, employers are slashing
jobs, and the cost of everything from a

quart of milk to a gallon of gas seems
to know no end.

Yesterday, Bernanke met privately with
House Republicans, highlighting the

housing crisis as his greatest worry.
Senate leaders have agreed to draft a

rescue bill that could deliver billions
of dollars to homeowners in trouble,

but they've been wrangling over such a
plan for months.

(nats)

The one thing that COULD pull the
economy back is exactly what's NOT
happening.

Consumer spending - which fuels more
than two-thirds of the economy - is

flat. Americans are now actually
saving more than they spend. Good for
their

bottom line....Bad for the economy.

(SOT MARK ZANDI/ECONOMIST): "AMERICANS

SAVING SUGGESTS THEY'RE NERVOUS.

THEY'RE SAVING FOR THAT PROVERBIAL
RAINY DAY AND IT'S CERTAINLY RAINING
VERY

HARD OUT THERE RIGHT NOW."

Bernanke is also expected to face
scrutiny over the Bear Stearns buyout.

The Fed's multi-billion dollar
lifeline saved the wall street
institution

from collapse but triggered protest
from critics who argue the Fed is
bailing

out Wall Street and putting billions
of taxpayer dollars at potential risk.

(oncam)

Besides Bernanke's testimony,
everyone's looking forward to the
all-important

March jobs report. That comes out at
the end of the week.

(nats)

The Fed Chairman's expected to tell
lawmakers he remains concerned but will

steer clear of declaring a recession.

Every day seems to bring more bad news.
Home foreclosures have swelled to

record highs, employers are slashing
jobs, and the cost of everything from a

quart of milk to a gallon of gas seems
to know no end.

Yesterday, Bernanke met privately with
House Republicans, highlighting the

housing crisis as his greatest worry.
Senate leaders have agreed to draft a

rescue bill that could deliver billions
of dollars to homeowners in trouble,

but they've been wrangling over such a
plan for months.

(nats)

The one thing that COULD pull the
economy back is exactly what's NOT
happening.

Consumer spending - which fuels more
than two-thirds of the economy - is

flat. Americans are now actually
saving more than they spend. Good for
their

bottom line....Bad for the economy.

(SOT MARK ZANDI/ECONOMIST): "AMERICANS

SAVING SUGGESTS THEY'RE NERVOUS.

THEY'RE SAVING FOR THAT PROVERBIAL
RAINY DAY AND IT'S CERTAINLY RAINING
VERY

HARD OUT THERE RIGHT NOW."

Bernanke is also expected to face
scrutiny over the Bear Stearns buyout.

The Fed's multi-billion dollar
lifeline saved the wall street
institution

from collapse but triggered protest
from critics who argue the Fed is
bailing

out Wall Street and putting billions
of taxpayer dollars at potential risk.

(oncam)

Besides Bernanke's testimony,
everyone's looking forward to the
all-important

March jobs report. That comes out at
the end of the week.

The "D" street bridge is now
limited to people---

The city shut it down last week
after seeing signs of deterioration
like exposed beams.

Drivers are using Cabell
(Kay-bull) street as a detour.

The city will decide whether to
close it for good in the coming weeks.

An original office wing is being
built at Poplar Forest.

Once that addition is complete,
visitors will see the house the same
way Jefferson saw it 180 years ago.

Restoration work has been going
on at the home since 1989.

The exterior portion will be done
next summer, but construction will
continue at the site.

You can see the new office wing
for yourself - Poplar Forest is open
Wednesday through Monday.

WX BUG (WX BUG)

TITAN << Good morning, I'm meteorologist Leo WX PRO Hirsbrunner in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. An area of high pressure moves LEO TOSS STRAIGHT TO COMMERCIAL in today. This will bring at least one
day of sunshine. Despite the sunshine, COMM highs will actually be a touch cooler,
topping out in the low 60s. A cold air
wedge, similar to the one this past
weekend, will begin to develop
Wednesday night. Easterly low-level
moisture and cold air in place may mean
light rain and even some sleet
Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Highs will only reach the low 40s.
With a front lingering near, scattered
rain is likely on Friday with highs in
the mid 60s. Saturday also features a
50% chance of showers as a front passes
through. Drier air begins to arrive
behind the front Sunday. This means
clearing skies and abundant afternoon
sunshine. Highs will remain in the 60s.
