sunshine. Temperatures should warm to

clouds and rain will return as a cold

drier air returns from the north,

become easterly this morning, then
southeasterly Thursday afternoon. This

sunshine. Temperatures should warm to

The F-A-A should expect some turbulence
today on Capitol Hill.

Current and former inspectors are
expected to tell lawmakers the agency

charged with keeping our skies safe is
too cozy with the airlines it

regulates....and even sometimes
minimizes problems to keep the planes

rolling.

The hearings follow a well-publicized
week of flights grounded after snap

inspections.

(nats)

The probe started after Southwest
Airlines was caught flying dozens of
planes

overdue for safety checks. The airline
knew it and F-A-A inspectors knew it.

Southwest was fined
10-million-dollars.

(SOT ROBERT STURGELL/FAA ASSOCIATE

ADMINISTRATOR): "WE HAD A BREAKDOWN IN
THE

SYSTEM. IT WAS A 2-WAY BREAKDOWN.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE."

The agency is putting a new reporting
system in place they hope will be
harder

to get around. It's welcome news to
travellers who don't ALWAYS trust the

airlines to do the right thing,

(SOT PEGGY MASSAR/AIR TRAVELLER):

"....THEY'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THE
DOLLAR.

YOU KNOW - KEEP THE PLANES IN ACTION,
MOVE PEOPLE, MAKE THE BUCKS."

But Congress wants to know IT can trust
the F-A-A....and that its recent

crackdown is more about protecting US
than flexing its muscles for lawmakers.

(oncam)

Those hearings this afternoon could
start off with a bang. One of the
first

witnesses is the inspector who blew the
whistle on Southwest...and the F-A-A

Six months after the new parking
rates took effect in Roanoke, merchants
say they're seeing fewer people
visiting downtown.

Back in October, the city raised daily

The extra charges will help pay

WX BUG (WX BUG)

TITAN << Good morning, I'm meteorologist Leo WX PRO Hirsbrunner in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. High pressure will move to our LEO TOSS STRAIGHT TO COMMERCIAL northeast. Light northerly winds will
become easterly this morning, then COMM southeasterly Thursday afternoon. This
will once again "lock in" clouds,
drizzle, fog and cooler temperatures.
Highs will hit the low 50s ealry and
then fall abit in the afternoon.
Expect steady temperatures Thursday
night around the mid 40s as showers
continue. Friday's weather looks
interesting. The morning will likely
start with clouds, fog and showers,
then we may catch a break with a little
sunshine. Temperatures should warm to
near 70 with a warm front lifting north
of our viewing area. Then, in the
afternoon and evening hours, more
clouds and rain will return as a cold
front charges through the region. South
breezes could get gusty Friday, around
20-30mph. Showers are forecast to
continue Friday night and into mid
morning Saturday. After that time,
drier air returns from the north,
ushering in seasonable temperatures in

the 60-65 degree range for the weekend.
After Saturday morning's showers, we're
looking at mostly clear to partly
cloudy skies for the rest of the
weekend For weather anytime turn to
our webpage at wdbj7.com >>
