OQ=Tim Saunders, News 7, Lynchburg << Kevin Shroyer is taking time off
(END SOT) from his day job to sign runners up for

Saturday's Point of Honor 5-K.

It's the first race he's ever
organized - and it's taken a lot of
work.

"Quite a lot more than I
anticipated, haha."

But Shroyer's taking it all in
stride, because this race has a special
meaning behind it.

"The main reason I put this
together was because I want to do
whatever I can to spread the word about
the positive effects of organ
donation."

Shroyer has already seen those
positive effects.

When his daughter Korinne died in
2002, her lungs and other organs were

donated to people who may not have
lived otherwise.

"It has been the silver lining in
that cloud that has hung over us for so
long after Korinne passed away."

This weekend's race will be held
in honor of Korinne - and money raised
will go to Life Net - a Virginia based
agency that connects patients with the
organs they need to survive.

"When everybody shows up tomorrow
and has a good time, money is going to
be raised for organ donation. It's all
going to be worth it"

The race will start here in
Riverfront park. More than 130 people
are signed up to run or walk. And
Shroyer hopes while they're out here on
the track, they'll remember what this
is all about.

"If I can't do anything other
than just get people thinking about
organ donation, if they haven't ever
thought about it before, just get them
thinking about 'is that something I
should consider for myself? I've
accomplished my mission."

Because much like a race, saving
lives is a fight against time.

And Shroyer wants to come out a
winner.

EVERYTHING WAS FINE. IT'S A SYNDROME
CALLED ANIMAL HOARDING...WHAT MIGHT

START AS A GOOD INTENTION GOES SADLY
OUT OF CONTROL.

(Patrick Kwan/Humane Society of the
U.S.) These people are not seeing it as
a

problem at all. that's one of the
definitions of animal hoarding, when
people

are really taking in more animals than
they can properly care for.

(Josh Landis/CBS News) It's hard to
believe someone who loves animals could

ever subject them to such horrible
conditions. The syndrome often goes

together with a broader condition
known as compulsive hoarding. It's when

people pack their homes with literally
tons of clutter, clothes and even

garbage.

A MOTHER AND HER KIDS EAT DINNER
HERE... ONE AT A TIME, AT THE ONLY
CLEAR

CORNER OF THE TABLE. THERE'S NO PLACE
FOR THE FATHER. HE'S BEEN DRIVEN AWAY
BY

THE MESS.

(nats pushing through junk)

DOCTORS THINK HOARDING IS TRIGGERED BY
UNDERLYING HEALTH ISSUES, LIKE

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER.
HOARDERS USUALLY DON'T WANT HELP UNTIL
IT'S

FORCED ON THEM...AND THEY CAN KEEP
THEIR SECRET HIDDEN FOR DECADES.

(Kristin Bergfeld/Professional
Organizer) this is not a crazy freak
living

down the hall...this is not some
eccentric person to be laughed at and

tolerated. This is a serious
situation.

THE CLUTTER CREATES FIRE HAZARDS,
ROTTING FOOD BRINGS VERMIN..AND NORMAL

ROUTINES BECOME IMPOSSIBLE.

WHEN ANIMALS ARE INVOLVED...IT BECOMES
AN ISSUE OF CRUELTY..AND THAT'S A CRIME

THAT CAN LEAD TO FELONY CHARGES..AND
JAIL TIME.

<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Mostly cloudy skies and
showers will rule your Friday night
forecast. Due to clouds and southerly
breezes, temperatures will be mild - in
the low and mid 50s. Moderate to heavy
rain is possible after midnight. A
moisture-laden front slides across the
area Saturday. We'll keep mostly
cloudy skies and showers in the
forecast. A few thunderstorms may also

pop up during the afternoon. Some
locations may see around 1.00" though
Saturday. Highs are slated in the mid
60s. Saturday night will still feature
scattered showers, because the front
should not clear the area until early
Sunday morning. Lows are forecast (much
cooler) in the lower 40s. Sunday is
looking pleasant. A day to dry out with
sunshine and highs near 60. Monday and
Tuesday call for partly sunny
conditions, with variably cloudy skies
and a slight chance of showers
Wednesday and Thursday. Friday brings a
50% chance of rain. For weather

Nationals vs. Avalanche and until the very late stages of :00 the game they got through the evening
without a drop of rain.

There was plenty of action even
in the first inning. Avs' starter
Polin Trinidad has to fight off this
line drive from Jamel Spearman. The
lefty did that and more giving up just
two runs on four hits in six innings
for the victory.

Their also was plenty of
excitement - this sharply hit ball to
second is fielding by Tim Torrres and
fired home to Koby Clemens. He makes
the catch, but can't hang on as Dee
Brown jars the ball loose and scores to
make it 1-to-nothing Potomac.

But the Avs got busy with the
bats and their defense as they get six
hits and four runs in the fifth and

also get some *CG final Potomac solid defense as they win game one 3 4-to-3. The two play tomorrow night at Salem 6pm.

The violent collision got even
worse as the car bounced back onto the

before coming to a stop on four very
bent rims in turn two.

The safer wall barrier in which
SAFER stands for Steel and Foam Energy

advancements with not only the chassis,

allowed McDowell to walk away without
even a scratch.

This race at Texas was to be
McDowell's second in the cup series.
