Courtney Hatton is a freshman at
Virginia Tech-- but ALREADY her Hokie
Pride and care for her community has
been deeply planted

I THINK IT'S JUST GREAT TO GIVE BACK
TO THE COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY AFTER WHAT
HAPPEN LAST YEAR.

The "Big Event" is Virginia Tech's
largest community project--

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK YOU CAN SEE
STUDENTS HELPING OUT, INFACT SINCE THE
BIG EVENT CAME TO VIRGINIA TECH IN
2002-- THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS HAS
GROWN TO 3 THOUSAND.

Here at Harding Avenue Elementary-- 30
students are giving a helping hand.
Whether it be raking leaves or putting
on a fresh coat of paint--- no job is

too small and no task too tall.

IT IMPACTS PEOPLE'S LIVES EVERY DAY
AND NOT JUST TODAY BUT THROUGHOUT THE
YEAR AND THAT'S THE POINT TO GIVE BACK
ONE BIG DAY.. ONE BIG THANKS TO THE
COMMUNITY OF BLACKSBURG.

THEY'RE SUPPORT FOR US-- THEY CAME OUT
STRONG TO THE VIGIL LAST SPRING, I'M
SURE THEY'LL BE DOING THE SAME IN A
COUPLE OF WEEKS, IT'S GREAT TO GO HELP
THEM SINCE THEY WERE SUCH A SUPPORT TO
US.

By the end of the day-- students will

have completed more than 400
improvement projects--The founder of
the Big Event says this is JUST the
beginning of what's to come for the
Blacksburg community.

COLLEGE STUDENTS ACTUALLY DO GET OUT
AND HELP THE COMMUNITY--WE'RE NOT JUST
HERE TO MAKE A LOTTA NOISE IN TOWN AND
MAKE LONG LINES....BUT WE''RE HERE TO
HELP OUT AND BRING A STRONGER--GREATER
COMMUNITY.

And a show of their GROWING committment
to the entire Hokie Community. Sinu
Abraham News 7 Blacksburg.
