February 14 Officer Daniel Meyer faces a
felony charge of unlawful wounding.
It was Valentine's Day, just
eight weeks ago -- Meyer shot
17-year-old Josh Brown -- as he ran
from a traffic stop.
It happened near Maryland Avenue
in Northwest Roanoke.
When Meyer ordered Brown to show
his hands and get on the ground- police
say the boy instead lowered his hands
out of the officer's sight. Officer
Myer fired once.
They found no weapon on Brown.
The Police Department conducted
its investigation... and handed it over
to the Commonwealth's Attorney, who
presented it to the Grand Jury on
Monday.

Some Botetourt County workers
will be among the newest faces in the
unemployment lines.

Today, M-T-I Groendyk GRON-dyke
announced it would be closing its
Buchanan facility.
Many of the 70-plus workers have
been with the company for decades and
say: though there had been talk of a
shutdown, today's news was a surprise.
The company says the Buchanan
plant didn't meet its needs.

cultural organizations housed there
hope to raise 27- million dollars for
major renovations. Today, they asked
the city to pick up part of the tab.

VO-NAT Representatives of Center in the
Square, the Science Museum of Western
Virginia and the Harrison Museum of
African American Culture are making a
joint request.
Spectrum Design is working on a
plan that would restore elements of the
building's original exterior, while
making room for cutting edge exhibits
inside, and on the roof.
The organizations are requesting
a multi-year contribution of four
million dollars from the city. Council
members did not commit today, but said
they are supportive.

Star Line, a fleet of trolleys that
will connect the City Market with
Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

VO-NAT The rubber- tired trolleys will
begin service in late August or early
September. A federal grant is paying
most of the purchase price.
Two trolleys will run Monday
through Friday from 7AM to 7PM. A third
will be added at lunch time. The rides
will be free.

Lynchburg native Leland Melvin is
visiting for the first time since
traveling to the International Space
Station.
Melvin was a mission specialist
on board the shuttle Atlantis in
February.
He spent the day visiting
students at schools in the area,
telling them about his job and urging
them to dream big.
He talked about what it was like
to be in space and whether he might go
back someday.

Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. We started Monday with a bit
of fog and drizzle along the mountains,
then overcast skies throughout the day
for everyone. The easterly wind
component will keep the cool air wedge
locked in place, with afternoon highs
only reaching the upper 50s today and
Tuesday. By Wednesday, clouds may lift
enough to see a brief period of
sunshine, this may help temperatures to
climb into the mid 60s. It looks like
by Thursday we'll notice this wedge
breaking, leading to increasing
sunshine. A warm front will also pass
north, this means afternoon highs will
soar well into the 70s. A big
difference from how we started the
week. Friday will feature increasing
clouds and a slight chance of showers
as a cold front approaches. High will
remain warm (upper 70s) with overcast
skies. As the cold front pushes east,
it looks like the best chance of
showers and storms will be Saturday
(40%) with highs in the 70s. Things
cool down Sunday with highs barely

Station earlier tonight as the Memphis
Tigers tried to win the school's first
ever national title.
But to do so, they

Kansas team that buried Carolina in the
semi-finals and one that last won a
national championship 20 years ago when
assistant coach Danny Manning was the
star.
Memphis was favored by two and
the Tigers had their moments in the
first 20 minutes as Joey Dorsey get the
jam off the steal.
But for the most part Memphis was
too erratic. Derek Rose got only four
shots and had just three points at the
break.
And that wasn't enough as Kansas
led the game 33-to-28 at the halftime
break.
But Memphis came out rolling to
open the second 20 minutes and quickly
got right back in the game.
And a game it was in the final
half as the two teams stayed within a
point of two of each other until
Memphis started to get a working margin
around the six minute mark - thanks to
Rose, who started to domnate on the
Memphis end of the floor.
But give it to Kansas - the
Jayhawks kept fighting back and Memphis
missed some big free throws late. That
allowed Mario Chalmers to hit this
three pointer with two second to go to
send the game at overtime tied at
63-all.
Kansas erased a nine point
Memphis lead in two

basketball hall of fame used this
afternoon as an opportunity to
announced this year's class of Hall of
Fame inductees.

are two of the best big men ever.
Patrick Ewing the former Georgetown and
New York Knicks star who is the Knicks'
all-time leader in points, rebounds,
blocked shots, and steals.
He's joined by Hakeem Olajuwan
who scored over 26 thousand points in
his career and still holds the NBA
record for blocked shots with 38
hundred and 30.
Ewing beat Olajuwan in college,
but the Dream got his revenge in the
Pros.
Those two are joined by coach Pat
Riley and - broadcaster Dick Vitale -

problems with the law are far from
over, but the word out of the maximum
security prison he living in out in
Leavenworth, Kansas is that Vick is
staying in shape.

the New York Daily News today that Vick
has been playing football on a prison
team - and that he has been playing
quarterback for both teams - sort of
like we used to do on the playground.
Blank also said Vick is making 12
cents an hour these days washing pot
and pans at the prison.
Remember Vick will go to trial on
state dogfighting charges back here in
Virginia on June 27th.

American travelers are finally getting
fed up with the airline industry.

received the most complaints ever in
2007 - as they raised fares, fees and
cut back on passenger amenities.
Topping the performance list this
year were low-cost carrieres such as
AIRTRAN, JETBLUE, and SOUTHWEST.
Record fuel costs are putting
many carriers in danger of bankrupcy -
And experts say the airlines and their
passengers will have to weather even
more turbulance ahead.
