General David Petraeus and Ambassador
Ryan Crocker told lawmakers that last
year's surge strategy helped calm some
of the daily attacks across Iraq. But,
he says -- a large number of US forces
will have to stay on the front lines,
in order to prevent those gains from
disappearing.

in a shooting a couple of months ago
has been indicted by a grand jury on a
charge of unlawful wounding.

Joshua Brown was shot on Maryland
Avenue, after police say he tried to
run during a traffic stop.
They say Officer D. Meyer fired
once, but a weapon was never found on
the suspect.
Roanoke Police investigated the
shooting, and handed the facts of the
criminal investigation over to the
Roanoke Commonwealth's Attorneys
Office.
Officer Meyer will remain on paid
administrative leave pending the
outcome of the court proceedings.

Branscome, who waived extradition
there.
He'll face numerous charges,
ranging from attempted capital murder
of a state trooper to reckless driving.

he was on his way to Mexico and stopped
in Texas for the night.

((With two areas of low pressure to the
west and east of us, we're once again
in the wedge. The good news is there
are signs this thing is starting to
break apart. Much like Monday, we'll
notice morning clouds and drizzle.
However, by the afternoon some of the
clouds will begin to erode away from
west to east. Perhaps enough to even
see some bright afternoon sunshine as
far east as Roanoke, Lynchburg and
Danville.
With the clouds and sun battling it
out, forecasting afternoon highs has
been tricky. If enough sunshine breaks
through, while even brief, it would be
just the trick to bring highs near 60
today. That's the plan. Wednesday,
we're ahead of an approaching cold
front. This means warm air will be
"pulled" up from the south. Look for
highs in the 60s once again with mostly
cloudy skies. By Thursday, we're out of
the wedge and into the warmth. A warm
front will pass north, with afternoon
highs shooting well into the 70s.
Friday will feature increasing clouds
and a slight chance of showers as a
cold front approaches. High will remain
warm in the upper 70s.))

opportunity to shop for donated clothes
at a free event called "Clothing Our
Community."
It will be held this Saturday in
Downtown Roanoke at 309 Campbell
Avenue.
The event is the work of Dayna
Palmer, who operates Roanokeforkids.com
and Roanokeforwomen.com.
It's essentially, a FREE shopping
day for any family in need.
News 7's Bob Grebe has the story.

For the next five days, Danya
Palmer and John Lusher will be working
hard to get ready for the "Clothing Our
Community" event.
They are still in need of
donations.
The clothing can be dropped off
at "Claire V" in downtown Roanoke at
309 Campbell Avenue which is in the
same building where the event will be
held.

There are also three other
locations where "Clothing Our
Community" donations are being
accepted... Pump It Up, Wood's
Automotive Service Center, and Video
Ventures.

volunteers are also needed each day
leading up to Saturday, to go through
and sort the donated clothes so the
families get the most from the event.

national championship title.

CBS Sports - NCAA would have to get through a
Kansas team that beat Carolina in the
semi-finals and one that last won a
national championship 20 years ago
under assistant coach Danny Manning.
Memphis was favored by two and
the Tigers had their moments in the
first 20 minutes, but for the most part
Memphis was too erratic.
Derek Rose got only four shots
and had just three points at the break.
Kansas led the game 33-to-28 at
halftime .
But Memphis came out rolling to
open the second 20 minutes and quickly
got right back in the game.
And a game it was in the final
half as the two teams stayed within a
point of two of each other until
Memphis started to get a working margin
around the six minute mark - thanks to
Rose, who started to dominate on the
Memphis end of the floor.
But give it to Kansas - the
Jayhawks kept fighting back and Memphis
missed some big free throws late.
That allowed Mario Chalmers to
hit this three pointer with two second
to go to send the game at overtime tied
at 63-all.
Kansas erased a nine point
Memphis lead in two minutes and then
owned the overtime.
The Jayhawks devastate Memphis
with a 75 to 68 overtime win.

law are far from over, but the word out
of the maximum security prison he
living in out in Kansas is that Vick is
staying in shape.

:00 Falcons' owner Arthur Blank told
the New York Daily News that Vick has
been playing football on a prison team
- and that he has been playing
quarterback for both teams.
Blank also said Vick's making 12
cents an hour these days washing pot
and pans at the prison.
Remember Vick will go to trial on
state dogfighting charges back here in
Virginia on June 27th.

Francisco early this morning for its
only stop in the United States.

The flame is in an undisclosed
location until tomorrow when about 80
torchbearers will carry it on a
six-mile route along the San Francisco
Bay.
The city's been planning for
tomorrow's festivities for some time
now.
Even the federal aviation will
restrict where plans can fly while the
torch is on the move.
It's presence in California
hasn't come without protest though.
Dozens are demonstrating against
China's policies toward Tibet and
Sudan.
