ANY LIGHT AT THE END OF THE
TUNNEL...THE CHAMPAGNE BOTTLE'S BEEN
PUSHED TO THE

The general and Ambassador Crocker held
their ground against a parade of
democrats unhappy with the war.....and
unsatisfied with their reluctance to
set a firm time-table for withdrawal.
(SOT SENATOR EVAN BAYH/D-IN): "IS IT
JUST IMPOSSIBLE TO OFFER ANY ROUGH

(gfx-in)
Instead - they told the Armed Services
Committee that when the surge ends this
summer and troop strength comes down
from its high of 170-thousand to
140-thousand, there'll be a 45-day
pause. Only then will further cutbacks
be
considered -- and there's NO guarantee
ANY more troops will come home.

Today's hearing might lack some of
yesterday's star-power - as all three

more
fireworks. Some of the MOST out-spoken
critics of the war are in the House -
which has been more aggressive in
pushing anti-war legislation.

General Petraeus is about as
bullet-proof a figure as there is in
Washington
right now--

But democrats have already cast the
progress report as a sign the Bush
administration has no plan to end the

"She basically has two holes in

Police say the puppy's owner

a pair of box cutters.
Paulette Dean/Director Danville
Humane Society: "People believe that
pitbulls need to have the ears removed
or shortened. We believe that cosmetic
surgery is not necessary."
Workers at the Danville Humane
Society aren't sure why this dog's ears
were removed.
But experts say some owners will
cut a dog's ears off when the animal is
being used for fighting.
"We're not saying that this dog
would have been involved in dog
fighting, but we're saying that it was
a victim of cruelty." 11:04:48
This isn't the first time the
humane society has seen a dog with its
ears cut off. This has actually been
going on for about ten years. And
that's why they're offering a one
thousand dollar reward to catch the
person who may be doing this.
"We have known for many years
that, for 50 dollars, someone will come
to your house and cut your dogs ears
off with a pair of scissors or with box
cutters."
This is the first time they've
found a dog so quickly after being cut.
They say it's the break they've
needed.
"We hope that we can bring this
to a close, or at least send out a
mighty strong warning to anyone who
thinks it's an acceptable thing to do."
And keep other dogs from
suffering the same injury.

Court papers say young females were
spiritually married to adult men.
More than 400 children remain in
state custody.
Investigators say it was accepted
that young girls would have sex with
older men at the compound, which was
raided last week.
The investigation followed a teen's
report that she'd been beaten and raped
