officer in Carroll County had to think
fast yesterday when the inmate he was
transporting tried to escape.

Investigators say 34-year-old
David Lee Yates was able to get out of
one of his handcuffs, both leg irons
and escape through a window of a
Department of Corrections van.


Witnesses say that's when the
armed officer driving the van chased
him and shot him in the upper back.


A passerby saw the incident and
called 911.


Some Carroll County residents say
they were shaken up by the incident.

He was not seriously injured.

settlement has been reached between the
state and a majority of the victims of
the Virginia Tech shootings.

legal documents are drawn up and
signed, but an early draft indicated
the state will pay the medical expenses
of those wounded.


Families of those killed will
receive 100- thousand dollars.


That's the maximum they could win
in a lawsuit against the state.


Governor Kaine says he's pleased
an agreement was reached before the one
year anniversary of the shootings next
week.

Taubman Art Museum's is coming
together. It's scheduled to open in
early November.


Workers have begun installing the
maple wood floor on the second
floor--in the main gallery area.


The museum says the goal is to
have that floor finished by June first.


The ground floor and third floor
are expected to be complete by August

a battle with skin cancer now has a
warning for people who use tanning
beds.

Two years ago Jill Johnson was
diagnosed with melanoma... a
potentially deadly form of skin cancer.


It was about the size of this
freckle on her leg except it was
darker, and on her upper thigh.


She now believes her years spent
