Iraq this week... while serving with
the Virginia National Guard.

VO-NAT Staff Sergeant.... Jesse Ault of

Dublin.... died when a roadside bomb
"struck" his vehicle south of Baghdad
on Wednesday.

Yesterday, his widow... Betsy
Ault... "shared" that he was NOT ONLY a
brave soldier... but also a loving and
dedicated family man.

The two met in the Virginia
National Guard... and were deployed to
Iraq together in 2004.

Later they married... had
children and Jesse finished his service
with the Guard.

But when Betsy's unit was
re-actived in early 2007.... her
husband volunteered to take HER PLACE
in Iraq.

His specialty was motor transport
operator.

The 28-year-old... who is
originally from West Virginia...
leaves behind two children and a
step-son.

morning.. that more than a dozen
militants were killed in overnight
"clashes" in eastern Baghdad.

Officials say security forces used
tanks and missiles to "supress" attacks
against U-S and Iraqi forces.

But Iraqi police and hospital
officials say seven CIVILIANS died in
those attacks.

They claim U-S helicopters fired on
homes and shops.

The discrepancies in the reports have
not been explained.

Iraqi troops supported by the US
military have been fighting to gain
control of this "Shiite district"...
for a couple of weeks now.

marine accused of killing a Pregnant
colleague.

.... was reportedly... a frequent
visitor to a local internet cafe in San
Juan de Vina.

He has been in custody since
Thursday.

A North Carolina prosecutor...
says he's confident Laurean will
"waive" extradition.... and will be
back in the U.S. sooner than later.

He's charged in the death of...
Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach... who
had accused him of rape.

Lauterbach's "charred" remains
were found in January in his backyard.

officer... was on probation for failing

to stop for an accident.

Court records in Tazewell County
show... David Lee Yates... pleaded
guilty in 2006 to the felony count. He
was sentenced to a year in prison and
five years probation.

Yates was being transported
from the Chatham Diverson Center in
Pittsylvania County.... to jail in
Tazewell County ... when officers say
he tried to escape.

Carroll County... Investigators say he
"pried" the screen off a window...
smashed the glass and climbed out.

The guard chased him and
fired two shots.

One hit Yates in the back.
He was flown to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital... where officials say he's in
stable condition and was able to talk
to investigators.

IDENTIFYING the remains of a teen who
crashed his car...

on Route 250 in Louisa County.

Police say it looks like the
19-year-old ... fell asleep at the
wheel... causing the car to veer off
the road, flip in the air, and crash
into a tree.

The car then burst into flames.

vulnerable than previously thought to
drug-related accidents.

A government study's found that
medicine mix-ups, accidental overdoses,
and bad drug reactions harm roughly 1
out of 15 young patients.

Researchers say hospitals need to
dramatically change the system in place
to detect errors so they won't be
repeated.

Scientists say they've found a way to
re-program skin cells so they act like
embryonic stem cells.

They've even used the cells to ease
symptoms of Parkinson's disease in
mice.

Many people object to the use of
embryonic stem cells because the embryo
usually must be destroyed.

Frequent blood donation ISN'T harmful
to your health, and it may actually be

good for you.

People who donate show lower cancer and
mortality rates, though researchers
caution this could be because donors
tend to be healthier overall.

yesterday caused a significant amount
of damage to homes in Lawrence County,
Tennessee.

The storm left a 15 mile long
path of destruction.

The hardest hit area was near the

Officials believe a possible
tornado damaged 56 homes there.

tallying up property damage from storms
that have devastated homes, businesses
and roads.

Engineers are on the scene of a
partial roadway collapse in Rogers
County, Oklahoma. Officials say a
section of state Highway 20 broke loose

Ten thousand drivers use state
Highway 20 every day.

A major snowstorm hit northeast
Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this

yesterday at his home near Detroit.

Police had been called to the
former Detroit Pitcher's home in the

paying tribute to the Virginia Tech
shooting victims... with a project
that's giving back to the university.

motorcycle with donated parts.

Virginia Tech signs are visible
all over the bike.

The handlebars and the "frame
supports"... spell out the VT logo.

There's also a memorial ribbon
and mirrors shaped like angel wings
that represent those killed.

The bike will be auctioned off in
Las Vegas... and all of the money
raised will go to scholarships at Tech.
