is dead after a shooting on a
playground.

Shots broke out at White Rock
playground - that's off Cunningham
Street around 2:30.

Authorities say Ivory Law died
from his injuries.

Another victim, a 22-year-old was
also shot.

He's being treated at Danville
Regional hospital.

A police chase came to a quick
end in Roanoke. Police say an officer
tried to stop a vehicle near Washington
Park for a traffic violation yesterday.

The driver refused to stop --
until he crashed at the intersection of
Orange Avenue and 16th Street.

According to police, the driver
and a passenger then tried to run away.

But they didn't get far.

The driver, an adult male was
arrested, the passenger, a 17 year old
male, was released to his guardians.

able to get a handle on this thing
quickly -- there were a few bumps..

When attaching a hose to a fire
hydrant, a water main broke at the
bottom of the mountain.

fire in Bedford county.

This one off of Nemo Road near
Holiday Circle.

Authorities say the fire is now
out but there is still no word on how
big the fire was.

ANCHOR=HOLLY News 7 has learned what caused a

brush fire near the top of Poor
Mountain yesterday.

This video came from our weather
camera where the WDBJ transmitter is
located.

Authorities say a downed power
line likely started the blaze.

These photos show a forestry
helicopter scooping water from a pond
on Tinsley Lane to drop on the fire.

Five acres burned before crews
were able to contain it.

research directly linking tanning beds

In other news.. Governor Tim Kaine
is hoping to improve the state's mental
health system

He signed dozens of new bills into
laws that clarify when someone's health
information can be shared and when a

person with mental illness can be
committed. Kaine says still more needs
to be done.

Also making medical headlines, a new
hospital will soon replace the facility
in Pearisburg. Construction will begin
this spring on the new Carilon Giles
Community Hospital. The facility should
be ready by 20-10.

And finally in health news, if you're
pet is overweight..they may need to go
on a diet..because it could be putting
their health at risk.

It can lead to diabetes, joint
issues, cardiac and respiratory
disease, skin problems and even cancer.

more that 100 injured following a bomb
exlosion at an Iran Mosque.

Local media reports that the
explosion in the city of Shiraz went
off as a cleric was delivering his
weekly speech against extremist beliefs
and an outlawed faith.

The force of the explosion shook
houses more than a mile away.

A police official said a homemade
bomb caused the explosion and that more
than 800 worshippers were inside the
mosque when it happened.

No one has claimed responsibility
for the attack.

WHAT THE CORP REALLY PROMOTES IS THE
CONCEPT OF SELFLESS SERVICE

Here at the National D- Day Memorial--
another plaque is unveiled--
recognizing the 20 Virginia Tech cadets
who lost their lives in the Normandy
Campaign during World War Two.

THE NORMANDY CAMPAIGN WAS THE MOST
CONDENSED SERIES OF LOSSES WE SUFFERED
THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE WAR-- SO IT'S
VERY PERSONAL TO US.

DURING WORLD WAR TWO- VIRGINIA TECH
WAS KNOWN AS VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC
INSTITUTE. VPI WAS AN ACTIVE DUTY
MILITARY INSTALLATION-- MORE THAN 7
THOUSAND ALUMNI SERVED THEIR COUNTRY--
323 DIED IN SERVICE.

The alumni director of this group of
cadets says the price of freedom is as
high today as it was on D-Day. He's
certain these young men and women who
stand before him-- will make their
predacessors just as proud.

He says the character of this current
group was valiantly displayed-- with
the recent tragedy that hit so close to
home.

THE SOUND OF THE GUNS, WHO TRIED TO
HELP THEIR FELLOW MAN DURING THOSE VERY
TRYING CIRCUMSTANCES.

of its' kind for Roanoke City Public
Schools.

The goal was to increase parental
involvement.

More than 60 parents came out.

Some of workshops dealt with how
parents can help kids with homework and
how parents who don't speak english
fluently can make sure their kids are
successful in school.
