GRAPHIC=House Fire Crews have cleared the scene of a
house fire in Southeast Roanoke.

This Morning The fire started around 1:00 in
the 500 Block of 9th Street.
Authorities say that the home was
under renovation and there was no one
inside at the time.
However, residents next door have
been displaced due to heavy smoke in
the area.
The Red Cross is providing
assistance.
Nearby power lines reportedly
caught fire during the blaze, and fell
onto a chainlink fence, making it hard
for crews to get to it at first.
There is no official word yet on
what caused the fire, but the home is
said to be a total loss.

a reward after a double shooting at
White Rock Park.
One of the two victims died and
the gunman is still on the loose.

The paramedic who was on scene
said 24 year old Ivory Law and another
22 year old man were found near these
picnic benches.
Law was killed and the other man
was taken to a nearby hospital.

released about a police chase in
Roanoke.

Saturday Saturday's chase ended shortly
QUICK after it began -- when the driver
crashed into a wall.
Police say an officer tried to
stop the car near Washington Park for a
traffic violation.
The driver refused to stop --
until he wrecked at the intersection of
Orange Avenue and 16th Street.
According to police, the driver
and a passenger then tried to run away.
Police caught up with them though
in someone's yard on Hanover Avenue.
The passenger, a 17 year old
male, was released to his guardians.
The driver 19 year old Trent
Rashad Jones, faces several charges.

A hazardous materials crew had to

A tractor-trailer caught on fire
about four miles north of the Fancy Gap
exit yesterday morning.
It was loaded with fork lift
motors.
When the fire department got
there at around 5:30 -- the driver had
already escaped the truck safely, so
crews concentrated on keeping the fire
from spreading to the trailer.

held a special celebration recognizing
the birthday of our nation's third
president.

That would be none other than
Thomas Jefferson.
The group organized ceremonial
planting of the American chestnut tree
on the grounds of his retreat
home--Poplar Forest.
Jefferson was known to love this
type of tree and used chestnuts to
build his home.
The tree was almost completely
withered and wiped out in the 20th
century.

showers are possible Monday, thanks to
a little daytime heating and a cool
pool of air aloft. Expect mostly cloudy
skies Monday, with the best chance of
any precipitation in the western
Highlands, Greenbrier Valley, and far
southwestern Virginia - near the
Interstate 81/77 interchange and points
southwest. Highs Monday will be in the
40s and some lower 50s.
Clearing skies Monday night. Cold
temperatures in the low and mid 30s.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Frost and freeze
advisories may be issued Monday night
and Tuesday night with lows in the 30s.
The spring growing season will be
underway in the eastern viewing area
Tuesday. Be prepared to protect your

Tuesday through Friday call for mostly
sunny skies as high pressure builds
into the area. Temperatures will begin
moderating from the mid 50s Tuesday, to
the mid 70s Thursday and Friday. Next
