Delta and Northwest see a mega merger
made in heaven.

(Provided by Delta/Northwest)

(Richard Anderson, Delta CEO)

ANDERSON 10:39:50 WE ARE CREATING AN
AIRLINE THAT CAN EFFECTIVELY COMPETE
AND

WIN IN THE GLOBAL MARKETPLACE

Driven by the skyrocketing cost of jet
fuel and competition from low-cost

airlines.. Delta and Northwest are
joining forces to create the world's

largest carrier.

(Darryl Jenkins, Airline Industry
Analyst)

JENKINS: BIGGER IS BETTER BECAUSE IT
GIVES YOU A LARGER PRODUCT LINE. IT

GIVES

YOU MORE PLACES YOU CAN FLY

The new venture would operate under the
Delta name.. Delta has already reached

an agreement with its pilots.. but the
pilots at Northwest oppose the

contract on the table.

The airlines insist they won't close
any hubs or lay off any of their

frontline employees.. still this deal
isn't going anywhere until government

regulators clear it for take-off.

(Pauline Chiou, Reporting)

BRIDGE: Delta and Northwest say the
merger isn't just good for their bottom

line.. they're touting a better value
and more options for airline
passengers.

(Bob Heller, Northwest Passenger)

10:54:49 IF IT IS GOING TO LOWER PRICES
WE'RE ALL FOR IT

(Sister Helen Bay, Delta Passenger)

BAY 12:22:11 "IF THE SERVICE CONTINUES
TO BE GOOD OR BETTER, THEN I THINK

IT'S GOOD, THE OTHER THING IS I AM NOT
SURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE COMPANIES

GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER"

Those who monitor the industry
caution... bigger is often not better
for

flyers.

(Rep James Oberstar, (D) Chmn.
Transportation Committee)

OBERSTAR 19:24:00 EACH TIME YOU HAVE A
MERGER YOU RESTRICT THE COMPETITION.

YOU REDUCE THE CHOICES FOR CONSUMERS

And if the Delta - Northwest deal does
go through... other airlines are likely

to steer toward marriage.

gkittelson@wdbj7.com Welcome everyone to your Tuesday
ticke and the Virginia Tech football
team will not practice tomorrow as the
entire university basically stops to
honor those who lost their lives a year
ago on April 16th.

Since that tragic day - Tech
football coach Frank Beamer has been
all over the campus and the country
comforting folks and letting them know
that the Hokie Nation was going to be
OK.

The Gators Trophy fell off it's
stand and broke last week.

Florida Football staff is moving
into new offices and the Trophy was in
a temporary location.

The table it was on got bumped by
a recruit who was on campus visiting
the University and the Crystal Football
on top got knocked off and broken.

The Trophy was insured for 8
Grand, and they have already ordered a
replacement.

The Gators do have a second
trophy they ordered with they won the
National title.

That one was on display at
Florida's Spring Game this past
weekend.

A ferris wheel in Singapore
called the Singapore Flyer officially
opened today.

At around 541 feet tall, it's
slightly taller than the wheel in
London.

That makes it the world's largest
giant observation wheel.

Passengers will pay 22 U-S
dollars for a 30 minute ride.
