without a home after a morning fire.

Crews were called to 309 Woodrow
Avenue in the Monroe area around 10
A-M.


Flames quickly spread to the
entire house.


Firefighters were forced to pull
back when the home's roof collapsed.


One person was at home when the
fire broke out, but he made it out
safely.


Witnesses say he tried to put out
the flames with a garden hose before
rescue crews arrived.


The cause of the fire is still
being investigated.

neighborhoods of Lynchburg.

times disgusting. And it was certainly
maddening and infuriating."


But residents who took part in
the city's dialogue on race and racism
say it's been a productive experience.


And now they have a list of 10
ideas for the city to act on.

"Some of the ideas can be done quickly
and others will take more time."


Education tops the list of ideas
that includes


creating a school curriculum that
promotes diversity and social
responsibility.


Citizens want to guarantee
college tuition for all graduates of
Lynchburg city schools.

skills so that dropouts and others can
find a job.

City officials say their dialogue

year anniversary.


It's called Voices of Hope, and
the cd is made up of songs the students
sang at a number of masses held after
the tragedy.

Police and fire crews blocked the area
