Just before heading to Catholic

the
church sex abuse scandal head on. He
sat down with 5 abuse victims from the
Boston area.
(SOT: Father Federico Lombardi, Papal
spokesperson)
00:10:22 "They prayed with the Holy
Father who afterwards listened to their
personal accounts and afterwards
offered them words of encouragement and
hope."
The Pontiff assured them...they and all
abuse victims are in his prayers. He
offered a similar message earlier at
the mass at Nationals Park Baseball
Stadium in Washington D-C.
(Sot: Pope Benedict XVI)
"IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THOSE WHO HAVE
SUFFERED BE GIVEN LOVING, PASTORAL
ATTENTION."
During his homily to more than
40-thousand faithful, he said no words
can
describe the pain and suffering
inflicted.... and he asked Catholics to
foster
healing.
(Stand-up Bridge: Teri Okita
Bridge/Washington, D.C.)
"The third day of the Pope's visit
seemed especially busy. The
81-year-old
presided over 4 separate meetings, each
with a different message."
At a gathering of leaders from
America's Roman Catholic colleges and
university, the former academic spoke
of the value of academic freedom...so
long as schools don't promote positions
that violate Catholic dogma. A short
popemobile ride later, he greeted
representatives of various religions at
the
Pope John Paul the second cultural
center.
