workers at the Volvo Plant in Dublin.

strike there.
About 2600 employees walked off the
job at midnight on January 31-st, and
they signed a new contract a month and
a half later.
Now, a Volvo spokesperson says
1100 employees will be laid off in
May-- knocking work down to one shift.
The company says production demand
has dropped.
The economy and high price of
diesel are also effecting Volvo's
decision.
Workers were told back in November
that layoffs would be iminent, but only
650 workers were expected be let go.

be laid to rest this weekend in Dublin.

VO-NAT Staff Sergeant Jesse Ault was
killed by a roadside bomb last week.
He had already served one tour in
Iraq and volunteered to return in the
place of his wife, who's also a member
of the Virginia National Guard.
The Ault family will receive
friends at the Bower Funeral Chapel in
Pulaski Saturday night from 5 to 8.
Ault's funeral will be Sunday
at two o-clock at the chapel, followed
by a burial service in Dublin.

Authorities say it started between
10-30 and 11 last night at 14-21 Askin
Street.
A neighbor spotted the fire at the

No one was injured.

was suspicious...but they're still not
sure what started it.

There are too family members to fit in
the courtroom... so officials have set
up video feeds to nearby auditoriums.
With each child getting individual
attention, it will take days to hear

American history, saying this is not
about polygamy, but the safety of the

State authorities raided the polygamist
compound two weeks ago... after a 16
year old girl called a family violence
hotline and said she'd been raped.
Police have yet to identify the girl,

"The interrogation on those young
children have done so much damage."
Texas authorities argue... the childen
were physically or sexually abused...
or were in imminent danger of abuse.
Many of the girls said they were forced
into spiritual marrriages. The

hundreds of children... and some sect
members could faces charges of bigamy.

Wesley Snipes should serve the maximum
possible penalty for failing to file a
tax return.

VO-NAT Prosecutors say in court
documents filed on Monday (14 APR) that
Snipes' case "cries out" for him to
serve the maximum, which is up to three
years in prison.
The "Blade" star's lawyer says he
has not reviewed the documents and will
respond with a pre-sentencing
memorandum of his own.
Snipes, 45, was convicted in
February of failing to file a tax
return. He was acquitted of more
serious tax fraud and conspiracy
charges.
He's set to be sentenced April
24.

has some elementary students BUZZING..
That's because the high winds knocked
down a six-foot- tall bee hive inside a
tree.
K-T-V-T reporter Joel Thomas has
the story.

(END SOT) Right next to the elementary
school..The bees have lived near Hurst
Hills Elementary for some time without
bothering anyone. "That's the area we
knew not to let the kids get too close
to," said teacher Karen Boyer.
The students at the school said they
really only knew one thing about them -
they sting.
"Last time I saw a bee it poked me in
my back. It really hurt," said fifth
grader Kayla Allen. "So I don't like
bees all that much."
Educators at the school decided to use
the bees as a lesson about nature.
"It's been a great teaching
opportunity, because we are taking the
kids over - from a distance - and
showing them the bee tree," said Boyer.
"They are actually able to see
honeycomb out in the wild and see
thousands of bees."
"Without them we wouldn't have anything
to eat because they pollinate all the
fruit and everything," said fifth
grader Gilbert Martinez.
"They have been saying the bees have
been dying out, so I want to save the
bees," said Allen. "I don't want to see
them die."
So educators decided to take on a new
project to save the bees.
"When the teachers and students were
both very excited about saving them and
not exterminating them, they called
us," said wildlife biologist Steve
Martin.

less intimidating...
It was a close call for a mother duck
and her 11 ducklings.

The feathered family got into a
predicament when the ducklings fell
into a drain-- leaving the mom to quack
hysterically while the little ones were
trapped.
Some people sprang into action and
called animal control officers to help
herd the birds, and get them to a safer
location.
The tricky part was capturing mother
bird.
Ater some creative cornering-- they
were able to catch her and reunite her
with her babies.
