turning Forest Park Elementary into

target middle and high school students
who are either over the appropriate age
for their current grade level or do not

So this would mean if Forest Park
is chosen as the new site for the
academy-- those elementary kids would
be sent to a handful of different
schools in the city. Now the school
board is also looking at moving Noel C.
Taylor Learning Academy which is
alternative school to Oakland
Intermediate School.
Students at Oakland would merge
with kids at Preston Park School.

prison for 15 years.

crews busy in the region.
The Virginia Department of
Forestry says a fire in Narrows is
buring about 200 acres.. it is about 40
percent contained- but officials
expect it to more than double before
its extinguished.
There are no structures in danger
there but in Shawsville a brush fire is
not far from some homes.
That fire is about five to ten
acres, and crews should have contained
before tonight.

going on across the midwest this
morning.

A five-point-two magnitude
earthquake shook the Midwest.
The tremor was centered near West
Salem, Illinois but was felt across
several states and in cities hundreds
of miles away.
Several aftershocks have also been
recorded. The town hardest hit with
damage appears to be Mount Carmel,
Illinois.
This video was from a surveillance
cameras inside a convenience store in
Chicago.
The clerk can be seen bracing
himself behind the counter, doors fly
open and items can be seen flying off
the shelves. No injuries have been
reported from the quake.

budget to add mental health drugs to
the Medicaid preferred drug list.
That means, in order for Medicaid
to cover medications, doctors must
prescribe drugs on the list.
Advocates say the the problem is
some patients will respond better to

In order to get those drugs
patients must first "fail" on the
preferred drugs.
Doctors say failure can be
deadly.

Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. The sunny weather from the
last few days is about to end. An upper
level area of low pressure will come
out of the mid Mississippi River Valley
over the weekend, spilling more clouds
into our region, as well as occasional
showers and possible thunderstorms.
Tonight, expect clear to partly cloudy
skies with mild temperatures near 50.
Winds will be light. Look for a blend
of sunshine and clouds to begin your
Saturday, followed by increasing clouds
in the afternoon. Rain showers are
looking possible by mid afternoon.
Highs are forecast in the mid 70s.
Saturday night's lows again fall to
around 50 with scattered showers. The
unsettled weather continues into Sunday
with highs not as warm in the mid 60s.
Monday carries a 40% shower chance.
Highs in the mid to upper 60s. With any
luck, we'll see drier weather by next

Maroons have a big weekend on the
diamond.
Roanoke will travel to
Hampden-Sydney for a double-Header. If
the Maroons can sweep the 2 games they
will qualify for the ODAC Tournament
next week.
Roanoke will be counting heavily
on Alan Moore the Sophomore out of Cave
Spring, who transfered in after going
to Tusculum College out of High School.

Head this weekend for the Verizon
Heritage. While they are putting for
dough at the beach, students at

were doing the same today in the
school's gymansium.
It was all part of the school's
annual fundraising campaign.
Each grade level designed a
different hole with a unique theme,
including a Coca-Cola hole, a camping
hole, and a presidential hole.
The event raised more than 5
thousand dollars for school programs.

The pair was spotted near a freeway
Tuesday morning in California.
A driver pulled over to pick up the
pup-- but the sheep jumped into the
backseat, too.
The unusual duo is now living
together at an animal shelter...
