The Democratic tussle over North
Carolina is just revving up.

(CHARLOTTE, NC)

The state's primary is May 6th - but
already nearly 75-thousand people have

cast early votes under new rules
allowing unregistered voters to sign up
and

fill out their ballots on the same day.

Hillary Clinton is making a campaign
swing there... but she faces uphill

battle. Barack Obama is expected to
win - and the number of newly
registered

black voters bodes well for him.

(NATS AD - )

But -it is the state REPUBLICAN party

that's launching the first head-on

attack on Obama.

(NATS AD -)

A TV commercial featuring controversial
comments from his former pastor is set

to hit the airwaves next week even
though John McCain asked state
officials

to pull it.

BRIDGE John Edwards remains a big
wildcard in the upcoming contest - The

one-time candidate and former North
Carolina Senator has yet to endorse
either

Democratic candidate for the White
House.

Barack Obama could use Edwards' weight
to win white working class voters - a

demographic that helped Clinton score a
double digit victory in Pennsylvania.

Campaigning in Indiana Wednesday , she
made the argument she now leads Obama

nationally in the popular vote.

CLINTON SOT I have received more votes

by the people who have voted than

anybody else. It's a very close race
but if you count, as I count, the 2.3

million people who voted in Michigan
and Florida then we are going to build
on

that."

But those wins won't count because the
states broke party rules and held

early primaries. Even without those
votes, Clinton faces a mathematical

challenge to collect enough delegates
to clinch the nomination. Susan
Roberts, News 7.

In a new twist, ESPN is reporting that
Tony Stewart is looking into the
possibility of leaving Joe Gibbs Racing

This Season The report insists that Stewart
wants to own his own team and return to
driving Chevrolets and working with
General Motors.

One possible scenario has him
joining up with Haas/CNC racing and
driving either the 70 or 66 Chevys--
two cars that have been a bust so far

this season.

Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs
responded saying Tony has some options,
but he's under contract with us through
2009.
