That's what the National Weather
Service is hoping to figure out in
Halifax County..where there are several
areas with storm damage.
But there's little doubt that damage
in Southeastern Virginia came from
tornadoes...three of them...
As Joel Brown reports, residents are

left of their homes piece by piece.

Residents are surveying what's left
after three tornadoes tore through.

The trail of debris zig-zags for
25-miles. More than a hundred homes
are
destroyed, Buildings are flattened.
And car windows are gone.

Cars were tossed across the parking lot

but just a few yards away from the

Some residents still don't know exactly
what shape their homes are in.

Governor Tim Kaine will get a closer
look at the damage later today. He has
already declared a state of emergency.

The storms injured more than 200
people, several critically..
Suffolk's mayor says there's still
reason to be thankful.

have their hands full this week...
Not only are they still fighting a 500-
acre wildfire outside Los Angeles...

They also had to deal with this huge
warehouse fire in South L-A.
Some power lines came down on a fire
engine, but none of the firefighters
was hurt.
Stacks of pallets were burning, along
with some structures, power poles and
at least one vehicle.
Firefighters say the dry wood of
the pallets may have accelerated the
spread of the flames..

tornadoes in southeast Virginia has
turned up no dead or additional
injured. In Suffolk, city inspectors
have condemned 140 to 145
homes and scores of residents who
evacuated their homes yesterday
aren't being allowed to go back to
their property. The storms
yesterday resulted in more than 200
injuries but no deaths.
