with a large lead over current Roanoke
Mayor Nelson Harris.

Virginia over four hours Monday.
It's going to be days before
damage estimates are complete.

Jealousy seems to be behind a
shooting in a Salem grocery store
parking lot.
Police say the victim, James
Fleshman was dating the soon to be ex
wife of the suspect, Bryan Sheppard.
The shooting happened yesterday
afternoon around three o'clock in the
Food Lion parking lot.
Fleshman -who worked for Pepsi-
had stopped at the store when Sheppard
tracked him down.
Fleshman's neighbors were stunned
to hear the news.

The police officers who fatally
shot a man in a traffic stop two months
ago in Roanoke County "responded
appropriately."
That's the Roanoke County
prosecutor's conclusion- -announced
today.
Micah Sword stopped his car in
the middle of Route 220- -near the
Franklin County line and opened fire on
police with an assault rifle.
Two Roanoke County officers and a
Franklin County deputy returned fire.
Sword died the next day.

Thieves hit a Roanoke Food
Bank, but they weren't stealing
dinner... they were stealing copper.
Police say somene tore
copper out of the air conditioners and
walk-in freezer units at Children
Feeding Children.
The thieves hit the
location on Melrose Avenue in Roanoke
sometime between April 11 and April 15.
No arrests have been made.

NATASHA READS She ran her car into a crowd of
people in Blacksburg, and now she's a
convicted felon.
Today, a judge found 21 year-old
Mary Elizabeth Bowen guilty on three
counts of maiming related to a D-U-I.
Last June, Bowen told police she
was trying to send a text message when
she ran her car onto the sidewalk
outside a Blacksburg bar.
At least 6 people were injured,
three of them more seriously.
Bowen also pleaded guilty to the
D-U-I charge today.
She will be sentenced in August.

ANCHOR=NATASHA Lynchburg Police are remembering
one of their own.
*CG locator Lynchburg Officer Will Branham died this morning
after a short fight with cancer.
His patrol car now sits as a
memorial, where friends and co-workers
are leaving flowers and pausing to
remember his life.
Branham was diagnosed with cancer
of the liver, pancreas and colon just
three weeks ago.
He's been with the police
department for seven years and officers
say the sudden loss has been difficult.
Branham leaves behind a wife and
two children.

of the historic Dan River Mills complex
has failed.
The Danville Historical Society
was denied its request for an
injunction against crews dismantling
the textile complex.
A judge said the condition of the
buildings posed a danger to the public
and would be subject to vandalism if
they were allowed to remain standing.
Some of the buildings are 100
years old.
At its peak, Dan River Mills
employed 12-thousand, and was
Danville's largest industry.

The Fed cut the Federal Funds
rate a quarter percentage point to two
percent.
The cut is the seventh one since
the central bank started slashing rates
last September in an effort to
stimulate the nation's economy.
But analysts say this cut could
be the last one for a while.
The economy saw very slight
growth the first three months of the
year, but that was better than
expected.

Salvation Army building in Lynchburg.

The first shovels of dirt moved
today for the Center of Hope.
The 20-thousand square-foot
building will house Salvation Army
services like the soup kitchen and
homeless shelter.
Right now, those programs are
housed in four different buildings.
The new facility will also have
room for things the Salvation Army
hasn't been able to offer, like living
space for families that loose their
home in a disaster.

Overall, it will be pleasant with light
wind and temperatures that won't be as
cold as last night. Lows are forecast
in the low to mid 40s. High pressure
will dominate the late week forecast.
Expect plenty of sunshine Thursday and
Friday with just a few passing clouds
as a warm front lifts to our north.
With the front north of us, we'll be in
the warm sector of air; and with
southerly breezes, expect temperatures
to respond! Highs Thursday are
forecast in the mid 70s - with low 80s
by Friday. Our next chance of rain
arrives this weekend. Models are
indicating a cold front pushing across
Virginia late Saturday into Sunday.
This may mean showers and a chance of
thunderstorms, but it doesn't look like
an event that will make us soggy all
weekend. The current thinking is that
Saturday will start dry, and likely
stay that way until sometime in the mid
afternoon. Then expect scattered
showers and storms as the front
presses to the east Saturday night,
showers will come to an end. If there's
a stray shower early Sunday, it will
leave, making way for increasing
sunshine for the rest of the day.
Temperatures won't be sharply affected
by the boundary. Highs Saturday are
forecast around the mid 70s. Lower 70s
are slated Sunday. The first two or
three days of next week look partly
sunny, with highs near 70. WEDNESDAY

PIerson Prioleau has a new home in the
league.

Super Bowl, signed the free agent
safety to give them defensive depth and
veteran leadership.
Prioleau who is entering his 10th
season in the NFL, spent the last three
years with the Redskins. He played 15
games in 2007, starting four and
finishing with 38 tackles.
Prioleau, who lives in Radford in
the offseason - and just this past
weekend took part in a charity event -
has played in 113 NFL games with San
Francisco, Buffalo and Washington. He
will be reunited with former Redskins
and current Jaguars defensive
coordinator Gregg Williams.

Cavaliers, Mac McDonald, has resigned
his post at UVA efffective immediately.
McDonald says he is pursuing
other opportunites after spending all
but six of the last 28 years
broadcasting UVA sports on the radio.
The five-time state sportscaster of the
year, says he looks forward to chasing
some goals he's had for quite some
time. McDonald's resignation went into
effect yesterday. His only departure
from UVA was back in the 80s when he
was the voice of Wake Forest sports for
six seasons.
