Administrators first made their
case for closing Forest Park.

They want to turn it into a
overage academy to help students who
are having trouble graduating.

They believe it's needed because

food bank, where the criminals stole
COPPER.

freezer units at Children Feeding
Children.

The thieves hit the
location on Melrose Avenue in Roanoke
sometime between April 11 and April 15.

No arrests have been made.

motive behind a shooting in a Salem
grocery store parking lot.

The victim, James Fleshman was
dating the soon to be ex wife of the
suspect, Bryan Sheppard.

The shooting happened Tuesday
afternoon around three o'clock in the
Food Lion parking lot.

Fleshman -who worked for Pepsi-
had stopped at the store when Sheppard
tracked him down.

Fleshman's neighbors were stunned
to hear the news.

poll-- shows former mayor David Bowers
with a large lead over current Roanoke
Mayor Nelson Harris.

voters surveyed in the city, 52 percent
say they would vote for Independent
David Bowers- compared to 31 percent
who say they'd vote for Democrat Nelson
Harris- that's well within the margin

and George Sgouros (sa-GORE-ous) get a
small peice of the pie.

Eight percent are undecided.

touched down in Virginia on Monday.

The National Weather Center says
eight twisters caused major damages in
the state.

Some Suffolk residents were
allowed back in their neighborhoods
yesterday to assess the damage.

minutes, because officials were worried
about damaged power lines and natural
gas mains.

Those affected were also granted
a 30-day extension on their state
taxes.

late week forecast. Expect plenty of
sunshine Thursday and Friday with just
a few passing clouds as a warm front
lifts to our north. With the front
north of us, we'll be in the warm
sector of air; and with southerly
breezes, expect temperatures to
respond! Highs Thursday are forecast
in the mid 70s - with low 80s by
Friday. Our next chance of rain
arrives this weekend. Models are
indicating a cold front pushing across
Virginia late Saturday into Sunday.
This may mean showers and a chance of
thunderstorms, but it doesn't look like
an event that will make us soggy all
weekend. The current thinking is that
Saturday will start dry, and likely
stay that way until sometime in the mid
afternoon. Then expect scattered
showers and storms as the front

The police officers who fatally
shot a man in a traffic stop two months
ago in Roanoke County "responded
appropriately."

That's the Roanoke County
prosecutor's conclusion- -announced
yesterday.

Micah Sword stopped his car in

the middle of Route 220- -near the
Franklin County line and opened fire on
police with an assault rifle.

Two Roanoke County officers and a
Franklin County deputy returned fire.

Sword died the next day.

Ukrop's pharmacist Steve Forbes
calculated the savings with the card on
some popular drugs.

On Lipitor customers saved $7.44

On Nexium $5.86

And on the generic version of
Paxal, $46 dollars.
