Some of the major reasons for
choosing Forest Park include its' size.
More than 200 kids would qualify to
attend the academy and Forest Park
would be able to accomodate all of
them.
The school board also said the
cost to convert the school would be at
low.
They also liked the layout of the
elementary school. It's self- contained
and enclosed rather than an open-style
campus.
Board members felt that style
would be best suited for an over-age
academy.

Also for past few years Forest Park has
not met state and federal standards for

Center. High pressure will dominate the
late week forecast. Expect plenty of
sunshine Thursday and Friday with just
a few passing clouds as a warm front
lifts to our north. With the front
north of us, we'll be in the warm
sector of air; and with southerly
breezes, expect temperatures to
respond! Highs Thursday are forecast
in the mid 70s - with low 80s by
Friday. Our next chance of rain
arrives this weekend. Models are
indicating a cold front pushing across
Virginia late Saturday into Sunday.
This may mean showers and a chance of
thunderstorms, but it doesn't look like
an event that will make us soggy all
weekend. The current thinking is that
Saturday will start dry, and likely
stay that way until sometime in the mid
afternoon. Then expect scattered
showers and storms as the front
presses to the east Saturday night,
showers will come to an end. If there's
a stray shower early Sunday, it will
leave, making way for increasing
sunshine for the rest of the day.
Temperatures won't be sharply affected
by the boundary. Highs Saturday are
forecast around the mid 70s. Lower 70s
are slated Sunday. The first two or
three days of next week look partly
sunny, with highs near 70. THURSDAY:

(END SOT) are in Charlotte for the Wachovia
Championship, and Chip Sullivan is
right in the middle of them, taking a
break from his duties as a club pro to
tee it up in his 4th Tour event of the
season.
CHIP SULLIVAN/ASHLEY PLANTATION PRO:
Part of the experience includes driving
a brand new Mercedes courtesy car for
the week. The Quail Hollow layout is
equally first class, yet extremely
challenging.
CHIP:
Chip will have his father-in-law and
Deputy Superintendent of Roanoke County
Schools, Tom Hall, on the bag as caddie
this week as he has for more than 50
PGA events. And the duo will have a
large contingent of folks from
Botetourt County making the three hour
drive to cheer them on.
CHIP:
Sullivan and Hall aren't the only
ones who will have support from the
Roanoke Valley in Charlotte. Chip hit
balls this week next to Luke Donald, a
native of England who just happens to
have an aunt and a cousin in Roanoke.
LUKE DONALD/Five Top 25 Finishes This

Chip has two more Tour events to play
in following the Wachovia, including
the Reno-Tahoe Open this summer,
following a May trip to Japan for the
Japanese PGA Championship.
TRAVIS WELLS: Don't forget, you can
catch third and fourth round action
from the Wachovia Saturday and Sunday
between 3 and 6 right here on Your
