just one day away.

Both campaigns are treating Indiana as
a must-win.

(SOT HILLARY CLINTON): "INDIANA

DEMOCRATS - ARE YOU READY TO START YOUR

ENGINES AND GET AMERICA GOING AGAIN!
(nats crowd)"

The rivals crossed paths last night at
the state democratic dinner....with

each pledging their devotion to the
middle-class.

(SOT BARACK OBAMA): "POLITICS DIDN'T

LEAD ME TO WORKING PEOPLE - WORKING

PEOPLE LED ME TO POLITICS."

The past few days have been dominated
by Clinton's gas tax holiday idea and

she hit it hard again...arguing the
country needs both a long-term plan AND

short-term fix.

(SOT HILLARY CLINTON): "WE HAVE TO HELP

PEOPLE IN THE HERE AND NOW WHO ARE

PULLING UP TO THE GAS STATION AND
WONDERING HOW THEY'RE EVER GOING TO
AFFORD

TO FILL UP THEIR TANK!"

The proposal has become Clinton's prime
talking point in courting blue-collar

workers. They're the bloc of democrats
who've been the key to her wins in

Ohio and Pennsylvania.

(nats)

Barack Obama has ridiculed the idea.
He calls it short-sighted, a gimmick,
an

obvious attempt at pandering to
voters....and it won't work anyway.

(SOT OBAMA): "DOES ANYBODY HERE REALLY

TRUST THE OIL COMPANIES TO GIVE YOU THE

SAVINGS INSTEAD OF POCKETING THE
MONEY. IT IS A SHELL GAME -
LITERALLY."

But the campaign's not JUST about
Indiana. North Carolina - once locked

into

the Obama win column - is now very much
in play. The Clinton camp doesn't

necessarily expect to win there - but
they'll take anything close.

(oncam)

Just a day until polls open and both
candidates will be logging some serious

mileage. They've each got events
planned for both states in what looks
to be

a VERY long day.

< forest park!!

It's the sight and sound of a community
fighting back.

THIS IS THE FIRST SHOT, THIS IS THE
FIRST SHOT! guy with glasses

In a battle-- these parents say they
will continue to fight till the

decision to close their neighborhood
school is overturned.

I THINK THIS IS GONNA HELP TREMENDOUSLY
BECAUSE WE'RE SHOWING THEM THAT WE ARE
A COMMUNITY, WE STAND TOGETHER, JUST
BECAUSE A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE-- THAT
DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN'T BE OVERTURNED.

This past Thursday- the Roanoke City
School Board voted to close down Forest
Park Elementary. Starting in the fall--
the campus is set to open its' doors as
an academy for students at risk of not
graduating.

with low S-O-L scores--the current
elementary school has not met state or
federal accreditation standards.

Closing it down would eliminate the
possibility of penalties-- P-T-A
president Lavita Washington says but
with the right resources-- it wouldn't
even be an issue.

THE S-O--L SCORES THEY SAY THE
STUDENTS STRUGGLE WITH, THERE'S ONLY 1,
IF THE PROPER RESOURCES WE'RE PUT INTO

THE SCHOOL TO HELP THE STUDENTS, MEET
THAT ONE TEST, THEN THE SCHOOL WOULD
PASS.

With city-elections on Tuesday-- these
parents are hanging on to hope that
some new faces in office will turn
things in their favor.

guy with glasses WE HAVE TO STOP
VOTING 4 PEOPLE WHO DON'T CARE ABOUT
OUR ISSUES, IT'S GREAT IF THEY ARE
DEMOCRATS, BUT IF THEY DON'T VOTE THE
WAY WE NEED THEM TO WHAT'S THE POINT.

In the mean time parent's plan to
attend Monday's city council meeting to
voice their opinion once again. SA News

some city residents. Georgia Martin
says it's the system that needs new

"If they would delve deeper and look at

closing Forest Park in favor of an over

Both campaigns are treating Indiana as
a must-win.

(SOT HILLARY CLINTON): "INDIANA

DEMOCRATS - ARE YOU READY TO START YOUR

ENGINES AND GET AMERICA GOING AGAIN!
(nats crowd)"

The rivals crossed paths last night at
the state democratic dinner....with

each pledging their devotion to the
middle-class.

(SOT BARACK OBAMA): "POLITICS DIDN'T

LEAD ME TO WORKING PEOPLE - WORKING

PEOPLE LED ME TO POLITICS."

The past few days have been dominated
by Clinton's gas tax holiday idea and

she hit it hard again...arguing the
country needs both a long-term plan AND

short-term fix.

(SOT HILLARY CLINTON): "WE HAVE TO HELP

PEOPLE IN THE HERE AND NOW WHO ARE

PULLING UP TO THE GAS STATION AND
WONDERING HOW THEY'RE EVER GOING TO
AFFORD

TO FILL UP THEIR TANK!"

The proposal has become Clinton's prime
talking point in courting blue-collar

workers. They're the bloc of democrats
who've been the key to her wins in

Ohio and Pennsylvania.

(nats)

Barack Obama has ridiculed the idea.
He calls it short-sighted, a gimmick,
an

obvious attempt at pandering to
voters....and it won't work anyway.

(SOT OBAMA): "DOES ANYBODY HERE REALLY

TRUST THE OIL COMPANIES TO GIVE YOU THE

SAVINGS INSTEAD OF POCKETING THE
MONEY. IT IS A SHELL GAME -
LITERALLY."

But the campaign's not JUST about
Indiana. North Carolina - once locked
into

the Obama win column - is now very much
in play. The Clinton camp doesn't

necessarily expect to win there - but
they'll take anything close.

(oncam)

Just a day until polls open and both
candidates will be logging some serious

mileage. They've each got events
planned for both states in what looks
to be

a VERY long day.

over 26-counties.

Right now, the food bank is
struggling to meet the increasing

The need is up nine percent while
donations nationally are down
30-percent.

Food prices are rising and the
continuing increase in fuel costs has
been an overwhelming burden - not just
for families, but for the Food Bank

SWVA Second Harvest Food Bank Food can be donated directly to
the Southwest Virginia Food Bank at
1025 Electic Road, Salem.

The phone number is 540-342-3011.

The food drive runs through
Saturday.

That's also "Stamp Out Hunger"
day which is the nation's largest
single-day food drive.

To help with that event, simply
leave a bag of non-perishable food by
your mailbox and your letter carrier
will deliver it to the food bank.

Money donations also go a long
way.

For every one-dollar contributed,
six-dollars worth of food is made
available to hungry people in
Southwestern Virginia.

The Roanoke School Board's plan to
repurpose an elementary school upset
some city residents. Georgia Martin
says it's the system that needs new
purpose.

"If they would delve deeper and look at
the problems, they would see that
closing Forest Park in favor of an over
age academy is certainly not the
answer," Martin wrote. "Overhauling our
entire educational system for the
Roanoke Valley, starting from the
School Board to Central Administration
on down to the Principals and the
faculty is needed."
