The rivals crossed paths last night at
the state democratic dinner....with

each pledging their devotion to the
middle-class.

The past few days have been dominated
by Clinton's gas tax holiday idea and

she hit it hard again...arguing the
country needs both a long-term plan AND

short-term fix.

The proposal has become Clinton's prime
talking point in courting blue-collar

workers. They're the bloc of democrats
who've been the key to her wins in

Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Barack Obama has ridiculed the idea.
He calls it short-sighted, a gimmick,
an

obvious attempt at pandering to
voters....and it won't work anyway.

car.

Police say Lorenzo Coley, who was
44, was killed around 3:30 yesterday
morning.

He was trying to cross Hardy Road
in Roanoke County when authorities say
a driver -- a juvenile- ran into him.

Police have not said who was at
fault.

They do say the victim was
wearing dark clothes and was walking
with his back toward oncoming traffic.

Both the driver and victim are
from Bedford County.

He was hit near the intersection

Brazilian Amazon are searching for
victims from a boat that sank while
carrying more than 100 people.

Officials say the boat capsized
before sinking in the Solimoes (sahl-

effect this week.

This past Thursday- the Roanoke City
School Board voted to close down Forest
Park Elementary. Starting in the fall--
the campus is set to open its' doors as
an academy for students at risk of not
graduating.

elementary school has not met state or
federal accreditation standards.

Closing it down would eliminate the
possibility of penalties-- P-T-A
president Lavita Washington says but
with the right resources-- it wouldn't
even be an issue.

IF THE PROPER RESOURCES WE'RE PUT INTO

some city residents. Georgia Martin
says it's the system that needs new
purpose.

"If they would delve deeper and look at
the problems, they would see that
closing Forest Park in favor of an over

answer," Martin wrote. "Overhauling our
entire educational system for the
Roanoke Valley, starting from the
School Board to Central Administration
on down to the Principals and the
faculty is needed."

Police say Lorenzo Coley, who was
44, was killed around 3:30 yesterday
morning.

He was trying to cross Hardy Road
in Roanoke County when authorities say
a driver -- a juvenile- ran into him.

Police have not said who was at
fault.

They do say the victim was
wearing dark clothes and was walking
with his back toward oncoming traffic.

Both the driver and victim are
from Bedford County.

victims from a boat that sank while
carrying more than 100 people.
