Nash has been denied a conflict of
interest exemption from the U-S
Department of Housing and Urban
Development.
Nash sought the exemption because
of his position as C-E-O of the Blue
Ridge Housing Development Corporation
-- which receives HUD money through the
city.
Nash was appointed to council in
March after Alfred Dowe resigned.
Now it's up to Nash to leave one
position or the other.
Council member David Trinkle says
Nash needs to say something in the next
24 hours.
Speaking to News-7 about the
conflict of interest issue, Trinkle
said "I wish we knew about this
before."

Richmond is over tonight...

armed man seen on campus this
afternoon.
A university spokesman says
police don't believe the man is still
on campus or in surrounding
neighborhoods.
BUT there will be extra police
patrols, and people are still urged to
be vigilant.
Witnesses reported seeing a man
with a handgun at Boatwright Memorial
Library.
He appeared to be wearing a gray
fake beard as well as a dark-colored
shirt or jacket with the word "Sheriff"
on the back.

question attend Montvale Elementary
School.
Authorities say another student
heard them plotting to kill the teacher
on the school bus last Thursday.
Of the three students...deputies
believe two were doing most of the
talking which is why only two could be
charged disorderly conduct.
A school leader wouldn't say what
had the boys so riled up but they
didn't take any chances at the start of
class Friday.

an arrest in a deadly weekend shooting.

Junior was arrested late this afternoon
and is charged with Felony Murder and
several firearms violations.
Wright is 21 and is from
Amherst.

trouble with the law again.

Michael Blankenship was charged
with hit and run over an accident that
happened last week in Powhatan
POW-uh-tan County.
State Police say he ran off the
road and stuck a telephone-line box,
drove through a yard....hit an
embankment and uprooted a tree.
Police tracked Blankenship down
at a Chesterfield County hotel.

weather continues to prevail as an area
of high pressure moves overhead, and
eventually off to the east over the
next 24hours. Afternoon highs will
climb into the upper 70s through the
remainder of the week. Wednesday brings
another day of partly sunny skies.
Clouds will thicken more Wednesday
night as a low pressure system
approaches from the southwest. Thursday
and Friday offer a decent chance of
showers and thunderstorms as that low
enters the Appalachians. Latest models
indicate the front will stall in the
Carolinas over the weekend, with
several disturbances riding along it.

Travis Coffman signed the proper papers
to attend Patrick Henry Community
College in Martinsville.
In the past, such a move would
not have been possible, but the
Community College is now a fully
accredited member of the National
Junior College ranks giving players
like Travis a chance to play
competitively after high school.
Patrick Henry Community College
actually got three Terriers today as
former Byrd stars Lance Kennedy, a
catcher, and pitcher Brandon Chocklett
also signed with the school.
Both Kennedy and Chocklett
graduated from Byrd in 2007.

(END SOT) Speedway a workout over the past two
days. Not originally on the test
schedule, the session was added by
Nascar in an effort to help the teams
to get a better grip on the circuit's
new car. The winged wonder is most
certainly safer, yet has had plenty of
aerodynamic handling issues this
season, especially on tracks a mile and
a half in length.

TRAVIS WELLS: Perhaps no two drivers
have gotten a better handle on the new
car than Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch.
The two have combined to win 5 of the
first 10 races this season. Busch is
the points leader headed to Darlington,
but has ruffled plenty of feathers
along the way, both in the garage and
in the grandstands. And he's
completely comfortable with being the
sport's new bad boy.

the state capitol this evening.

gathered to remember the life of Deputy
Sheriff Jason Lee Saunders.
The Campbell County deputy was
killed in a vehicle crash in Bedford
County last April while helping with a
chase.

Those who knew Saunders best say
