57-year-old Phyllis Pollard was
driving the bus, she was unconscious
when rescue crews arrived.
She was taken to Lynchburg
General Hospital where she died a short
time later.
32 students were on the bus when
it crashed - they were headed for
Central Middle School.
Seven boys between the ages of 12
and 15 received minor injuries.
They were taken to hospitals in
Farmville and Halifax County as a
precaution, but we're told the most
serious injury was a deep bruise on a
student that was sitting behind the bus
driver.
Getting back to the driver, we're
told that Pollard had a clean driving
record - she'd been driving for
Charlotte County for eight years.

APRISA WEATHER MINI OPEN
WALK INTO CHROMAKEY
STRAIGHT TOSS TO BRENT
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Tonight, showers and
thunderstorms are likely. Any storm
could contain the following: Heavy rain
(1.00"-2.00" with heavier downpours)
Gusty wind, Hail, Isolated tornadoes.
Most storms will move along rather
quickly, but heavy rain could cause
ponding of water on roads. If a storm
would slow down and "train" over the
same area, flooding may be realized.
Use caution at night and NEVER cross a
flooded roadway. Lows are forecast near
60. Friday will start cloudy with
early showers, then clearing as the day
progresses. Temperatures will stay mild
in the mid 70s. Westerly winds may gust
around 25mph as low pressure tracks off
the coast. Saturday features partly
sunny skies and the slightest chance of
a shower. Highs are forecast in the
upper 60s and lower 70s. Another round
of showers will be possible on Mother's
Day Sunday. Once again, thunderstorms
with heavy rain will be possible,
especially late. Stay tuned for the
latest on the late weekend system!
THURSDAY NIGHT: Rain. Some could be
heavy at times. Low: 60 FRIDAY:
Showers end. Then clearing. High: 74

Ticker and the Virginia Tech Softball
Team saw something nearly unheard of to
start their A-C-C Tournament. Angela
Tincher gave up 3 Runs in the First
inning. 2 of them coming on a Home

But Tincher and the Hokies
settled down as they came back to get a
7 to 4 win over Maryland and advance to
play Florida State tomorrow at 12:30 as
Tech tries to defend their A-C-C
Tourney Title.
The Virginia Cavaliers are on the

Yesterday, a Dodgers fan sitting in

made a spectacular catch.
Mets' batter, Ryan Church crushed the
ball into the far right- field stand.
A quick- thinking dad stood up to
catch the ball in his gloved hand,
while holding his small son in his
OTHER hand.
And somehow, he managed to hold onto
both....
