CK-WXBUG CURRENT CONDITIONS ROUNDUP

<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. A storm survey conducted by
the National Weather Service in
Blacksburg confirms a tornado touched
down in Henry and Franklin Counties
last night. This is the second tornado
reported in the NEWS7 viewing area in
less than two weeks. Last night's
tornado was classified as an EF1 with
winds of 86 to 95mph. The twister had a

one mile path with a width of 75 yards.
Numerous trees were downed and four
homes damaged. The tornado touched down
near state route 886 in Henry County at
8:00pm, and lifted at routes 618 and
632 in Franklin County. Also last
night, many hometowns picked up
1.00-2.00" of rain. Some locations
received 3.00-5.00". Needless to say,
this caused flooding problems. While
most rivers and creeks have crested,
pay attention to swift moving water
through Saturday. Also, watch for
debris on roadways until crews remove
things like limbs, trees and loose
gravel from Thursday's late storms.
REST OF FRIDAY: Expect more clouds than
sun. Temperatures are forecast in the
mid 70s. Westerly breezes around
15-20mph with higher gusts. Some
creeks, streams and rivers may be
moving swiftly due to last night's
heavy rain. FRIDAY NIGHT: Winds will
eventually relax after a breezy
evening. Skies will be mostly cloudy as
an upper level disturbance rotates
toward us from the Ohio River Valley.
This feature could produce scattered
showers, but severe storms will not be

a problem. Low temperatures are
forecast in the low 50s. SATURDAY:
After morning clouds and perhaps a few
light showers, increasing sunshine is
expected. It should turn out to be a
rather nice day with highs near 70 and
a refreshing northwesterly breeze.
After a clear evening, clouds will
return Saturday night with lows around
50. MOTHER'S DAY SUNDAY: Could Sunday
be stormy, again? Right now, we'll
monitor for more rain and storms
beginning Sunday afternoon into Sunday
night. A strong jet stream will be
overhead, which could create more
strong storms. With saturated ground
from recent rains, we'll have to watch
for the potential of flooding. Stay
with SkyTracker7 Weather during the
weekend as we track our next
wet-weather maker. For weather anytime
turn to our webpage at wdbj7.com >>

mstevens@wdbj7.com NASCAR is in Darlington this
weekend and arguably the toughest track
in racing just a lot tougher.

CHANNEL=A VO-NAT

*CG locator Darlington, SC

SPEED The egg shaped track has been :00 around since 1950 and it was just
recently repaved - making it smooth as
glass and maybe too fast.

Denny Hamlin and about 16 other
drivers have found that out first hand
today in either practice or qualifying
as they put one of those famous
Darlington stripes on the outside wall.
We'll update qualifying tonight on
News 7 at 11.

mstevens@wdbj7.com The 12th annual Tug for Tots
charity event was held today down on
one of the new fields at the old
Victory Stadium site, and once again
the unique event produced a few
blisters, some sore muscles and a lot
of much needed cash - along with a
couple six foot seven inch tall
referees.

OQ=...WITH THIS YEAR'S TUG." << The skies were full of hope and
(END SOT) even a little sunshine as the 26 teams

spent their lunch hour grunting and
groaning in this charitable event.

NAT SOUND

Each year area businesses ante up
$1000 dollars each to entera team to
take part in an old fashioned Tug of
War.

The game is simple - the cause is
more complicated - raising money to
benefit CHIP - Roanoke's Child Health
Investment Partership that provides
health care to children who otherwise
couldn't afford it.

WILLIAM FRALIN

DAVE LEITAO

The University of Virginia head
basketball coach who spends a lot of
time offering assistance to referees -
admitted he never expected to be
wearing the stripes himself.

The defending champion team in
the event - Appalachian Power welcomed
to the coach to town by donning orange
Cavalier hats in his honor.

DAVE LEITAO

Neither the hats nor Leitao could

pull APCO through as Allstate won this
year's heavyweight division.

The Roanoke City Sherriff's
officie took home the light weight
title, while the ladies from Chip won
the new featherweight championship.

In all nearly 30 thousand dollars
was raised with this year's Tug.
