outside an apartment complex.

All of this from a shooting a
little before two o'clock this

A hard-earned accomplishment for
everyone - and especially true for one
student in Lynchburg.
News 7's Tim Saunders shows us
the obstacle he had to overcome to get
this point.

circumstance.
It's a song that signals a great
accomplishment.
But for one graduate at Lynchburg
college, it's a song he almost didn't
get to hear.
"This wasn't how I envisioned
this ending, but it was good."
Jason Early is a survivor.

Just six months ago, he and his
friend Sean Southerland were badly
injured in a plane crash that killed
Jason's Dad.

To see Jason up and walking for
his graduation, you'd never know
anything happened.
"We're certainly ahead of
schedule in terms of the recovery
process"
Early spent the last six months
at a Philadelphia rehab center -
learning how to walk again.
"The day I got in there, I
couldn't move at all. But by the time
I left a month later, I was walking
with a walker."
His doctors thought it might take
a year for him to get this far.
But his mother says he's too
strong for that.
"He just didn't want to wait a
year. He couldn't wait a year. He's
just done really well and we're so
proud of him."
Speaker reads the name: Jason
Stanley Early.
What would normally a proud
moment takes on an even greater meaning
for Early and his family.
And now that he has that degree?
"I don't know, you got a job for
me?"
Early says he'll take the summer
off and continue getting healthy, but
he might follow in his father's
footsteps, working in the insurance
industry.
For Early and his family, it's
all part of the long road to recovery.
"We just stick together and make
it day-by-day. Take it one day at a
time, that's all we can do, and we
are."
But with one milestone down, the
road from here will be a little easier.

A white Nissan was traveling
north when it wrecked into a green
Four-runner.
Traffic had to be diverted while

an hour, knocking Danica Patrick from
the top spot and claiming the
provisional pole. But his teammate

reduced to a single elimination event
after wet weather reaked all kinds of
havoc on the schedule in College Park,
Maryland. That meant the loser of
today's semis would be headed home.
But the Hokies lived to play another
day, beating Florida State 2 to
nothing. Angela Tincher struck out 13
of the 22 batters she faced tossing a
no hitter. The Hokies will face North
Carolina or NC State in Sunday's 12
Noon Final.

college basketball. Davidson's Stephen
Curry led the Wildcats to the Elite
Eight of this year's NCAA Tournament,
much to the chagrin of those schools
who failed to take a chance on the late
bloomer whose Dad Dell played at
Virginia Tech.
While Steph displayed his
array of skills, he says that talk of
him jumping to the NBA after just 2
years was extremely premature.
