officials have confirmed that you won't
see a Walmart in Clearbook.

Elmer Hodge has confirmed he has heard
from sources close to the project and
the citizens in that area, that Walmart
will not be coming to Clearbrook.

This store would have been
located just off of route 220 behind a
group of luxury car dealerships and
near Clearbrook Elementary.
The project was approved in the
fall 2006 and then put through the
paces and appealed by a citizen group
opposed to plan.
Once that appeal was shot down
-nearby homeowners thought the
superstore was envitable, tonight's
news was a surprise.

they were forced to shoot 57-year-old
Michael Long, because he was pointing a
shotgun at them.
Long died at the scene.
A 17-year old girl was hurt.
Neighbors who saw the shooting
say that girl was Long's daughter, and
he was trying to protect her from a
boyfriend.

Smith's autopsy suggest he did NOT die
from injuries related to a crash.

Smith was being held at the New
River Valley Jail in connection with a
double shooting last Tuesday in the
Dismal area of Giles County.
Authorities say Smith stole a
truck from one of his victims and later
wrecked it.
He was convicted of murdering two
hikers in that same area back in 19-81.
Smith served 15 years for those
slayings.
State Police say the medical
examiner's final results could take
several weeks.

community remembered one of their own
who didn't make it back from the front
lines.

overhead will help keep skies clear and
winds light overnight. Lows will drop
to the low 40s. Clouds increase
Wednesday from west to east as the high
moves offshore. By Thursday, a cold
front and low pressure system increase
the shower chances to 50%. Could see a
rumble of thunder as well. The front
gets pushed offshore Friday, with a few
lingering showers possible. Saturday is
quiet before our next shower-maker

Mexico was diagnosed with kidney
failure a decade ago and has since
survived only on dialyalis treatments.
A co-worker heard about his
condition and offered him one of her
kidneys.
The surgery is scheduled for
later this month.
Home Depot plans to help with
their expenses.

Jerry Falwell was a prominent
evangelical minister... at times a
lightening rod for controversy.
Nearly a year has passed
since his death.
Tonight, the one person who stood
quietly behind the Lynchburg leader...
shares her views.
News7's Tim Saunders sat down
with
Macel (may-sull) Falwell for a
look at her husband's life and legacy
now detailed in a new book.

bathtub!" their adult lives together in the
(END SOT) church.
It's the one thing Macel says
they always had in common - the place
where they first met.
"I played the piano at the church
and my friend played the organ. And
one night, somebody told him that they
had some pretty girls over there."
It wasn't the beginning you might
expect.
Macel wasn't even single.
"I was engaged to someone else,
but that didn't bother him at all"
And Jerry had to work to win his
girl.
"He would write me letters and
his friend, he would write me letters
too. They happened to be in the same
area, and so he said I'll take those
letters and mail them for you. And so
the friend would give him the letters
and he would (laughs) tear them up!"
But Macel says she never saw
herself marrying anyone but Jerry.
She says his big heart pulled her
in.
"You could come and cut his arm
off and he'd say 'oh, that's ok, don't
worry about it' (laughs), he's just
that type of person, and once somebody
gets to know him, they just can't
believe that they like him."
Falwell says her husband won over
many enemies with a selfless quality.
Giving the shoes off his feet to
a man without a pair of his own.
"He says what size do you wear?
And the man says 11 and a half. And he
says, that's what size I wear. Took
them off and gave them to him, came
home with just his socks on."
Falwell says her husband loved to
have fun - she fell victim to many of
his pranks.
"I was brushing my teeth and I
heard this horrible sound and I thought
'what is that?!' And I turned around
and looked and there was an alligator
in the bathtub!">>

the former Cave Spring Knight and
Virginia Cavalier who is in the
Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Hagan
- a former Friday Football Extra player
of the week - is currently playing for
the Hickory Crawdads down in North
Carolina.
He is currenlty hitting at a 277
average, mostly as a Designated Hitter.
A position that Hagan has had to
adjust to.

Elaine Grace says she was walking
her dog on a trail behind an apartment
complex, when her dog noticed a big cat
in the bushes.
When the bobcat attacked both
Grace and her dog -- the woman
instinctively grabbed it by the neck
and was somehow able to pin the cat to
the ground until help arrived.

stroke last at his home last Friday.
His publicist says he is doing
well and will likely be released soon.

Drew Barrymore was rear-ended by
another driver in a hit -and-run
accident in West Hollywood today....
But instead of staying put, she
took off after the car and was able to
get the plate number.
Authorities say following someone
can be dangerous, but getting that
license number is crucial. The
33-year-old wasn't hurt in the
accident.
So far, no arrests have been
made.
