Breaking news this morning--
State police confirm an accident
involving a state trooper's vehicle.
They say a cruiser was hit this
morning around 6- 45 on Interstate 81
northbound at milemarker 162, near
Buchanan.
We don't know yet whether the
trooper was injured.

Beginning at six tonight, the left
lane on I- 81 southbound at milemarker
128 near Ironto will be closed while
crews make bridge repairs.
The lane will re-open at six
tomorrow morning, but drivers should
expect a new traffic pattern.
Both lanes will be open, but
traffic will be split on each side of
the work zone.
Wide loads will be detoured onto
Route 11 at exit 132 near Dixie
Caverns, and will be directed back to
I- 81 at exit 118 in Christiansburg.

We found it on just about

it's especially bad on the overlook
railings.
The city of Roanoke spends thousands
of dollars a year removing the graffiti
but it doesn't take long for vandals to

actually getting worse.

Yesterday, V-DOT started
work to slow down traffic on Springlawn
Avenue in Southwest Roanoke County.
Crews will be installing
two traffic islands to eliminate some
turns onto Ranchcrest Drive and
Merriman Road. They'll also put in
what's called a "speed table" midway
down Springlawn.
Though the work had been
planned for some time, it took on added
significance after a runner was hit by
a car and killed in January.

in the Henry County area, crews
continue to cleanup the mess it left
behind.
The storm was spotty at best but
took out tons of trees.
Many homeowners were back at it
yesterday picking up after working all
weekend.
This 15-foot sinkhole in
Martinsville near Sam Lions and Indian
Trails came about from all of last
week's heavy rain..

We have an update to a story we have
been reporting this morning about an
accident on Interstate 81 involving a
State Police trooper.
Our News7- photographer on the
scene has learned that the trooper was
taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with
non-life threatning injuries.
Apparently, the trooper, who was
in an unmarked car, had pulled over a
tractor trailer around 6- 45 on
Interstate 81 northbound at milemarker
162, near Buchanan.
Both he and the tractor trailer driver
were in the trooper's car when it was
hit by another tractor trailer going
northbound.
That tractor trailer fled the scene.
State Police are looking for that
vehicle.
Meanwhile, The left northbound lane is
closed while they continue the
investigation.

crime prevention a year and a half ago.
Saturday night Officer Lawrence
had stopped the two suspects on
Huntington Boulevard.
They took off on foot, but
officer Lawrence caught up with them.
He was in the process of cuffing one,
when the other man assaulted him.

A woman at the Go Mart gave
police descriptions of Dantonio Foster
and William Steele, Junior.
The two were charged with
malicious wounding and felony

This 15 foot sinkhole in
Martinsville came about from all of the
heavy rain - also last week.
It's located near Sam Lions and
Indian Trails.
The Health Department also posted
signs around Lake Lanier.
The water could have been
contaminated after a sewer line broke.

Center. A ridge of high pressure will
usher in some changes in the overall
pattern today and Wednesday. Look for
more sunshine and warmer temperatures
as winds begin a more southerly shift.
By mid-week, a cold front and low
pressure system will bring in more
clouds and eventually a chance of rain
by Thursday. The pattern looks a bit
unsettled through the end of the week,
with rain chances on Thursday and
Friday as a front stalls over the area.
We could see a small break in the
action Saturday, before another front
