GRAPHIC=Martinsville Shooting Police are investigating a
shooting in Martinsville.
It happened around 7:15 last
night at the Rivermont Apartment
complex on Fayette Street.
Police say 19-year-old Taniel
Montre Irby was shot in the leg.
Irby told authorities he had been
standing with a group people at a
nearby dumpster when he heard a gun go
off, then he realized he'd been shot.

The Marine was killed in action on

wake of several bombings in India.

Originally, police said 60 people
were killed...but 20 more died from
their injuries overnight.
The series of bombings hit the ancient
city of Jaipur JY-poor, which is
popular with tourists.
A state police official says the
seven explosions in markets and other
areas were "a terrorist plot" designed
"to cause the maximum damage to human
life."
It's not known how many, if any,
foreign tourists were caught in the
blasts.

the death of convicted killer Randall
Lee Smith.

from the hospital...Smith died Saturday
- while in police custody at the New
River Valley Jail -- He was charged
with shooting two men last Tuesday near

truck from one of his victims and later
wrecked it.
Hikers along the Trail say
Smith's death has brought a sense of

Elmer Hodge has confirmed he has heard
from sources close to the project and
the citizens in that area, that Walmart
will not be coming to the area.

man was killed there Monday night.

Two Altavista police officers say
they were forced to shoot 57-year-old
Michael Long, because he was pointing a
shotgun at them.
Long died at the scene.
A 17-year old girl was hurt.
Neighbors who saw the shooting
say that girl was Long's daughter, and

boyfriend.

wake of several bombings in India.

were killed...but 20 more died from
their injuries overnight.
The series of bombings hit the ancient
city of Jaipur JY-poor, which is
popular with tourists.
A state police official says the
seven explosions in markets and other

life."
It's not known how many, if any,
foreign tourists were caught in the
blasts.

But his wife is hoping he'll be
remembered best for his work in the

Falwell is sharing her view of the
Falwell legacy with a new book.

(END SOT) the good times with her husband, but
she knows not everyone looks back on
her husband fondly.
"I knew people were going to say
things and I just sort of forgot it and
never talked about it at all."
But nearly a year after her
husband's death, she is talking.
Writing her thoughts down for the
first time in a book called "Jerry
Falwell, his Life and Legacy."
"I had always wanted to write a
book, but I never had the nerve to do
it. I used to say Jerry, I'd like to
write a book and he'd say you should go
ahead and do it and I wouldn't do it."
Falwell says she wants to help
others see a side of her husband they
may have missed.
She talks about her husband's
political life, and his role as founder
of the Moral Majority.

"Although the media painted him
as an extremist, that was never true,"
she writes.
"Jerry was a moderate in all
things, including his political views."

She also talks about the threats
her family faced, sharing her feelings
about bomb scares and plots to kidnap
her children.

"Jerry refused to let the
escalating attacks deter him," she says
, "Instead he chose to laugh about it.
I trembled for hours."

The book was an idea of Falwell's
son, Jonathan.
He urged his mother to write down
her memories.
"A lot of the stories in the
book, literally, I had never even heard
before. Things that happened back when
they were dating and even before they
had become an item so to speak."
From Falwell's trouble with the
Securities and Exchange Commission to
his role following the PTL Scandal,
Macel's thoughts are all there.
But so are her memories of going
back to college at Jerry's insistence -
and even bungee jumping with her late
husband.
"I think they will understand
that Jerry is not the Jerry they read
about in the paper."
"He just made everything happen
for anybody and everybody."
A memory she's hoping will live
on - in her words.

GRAPHIC=Martinsville Shooting Police are investigating a
shooting in Martinsville.
It happened around 7:15 last
night at the Rivermont Apartment
complex on Fayette Street.
Police say 19-year-old Taniel
Montre Irby was shot in the leg.
Irby told authorities he had been
standing with a group people at a
nearby dumpster when he heard a gun go
off, then he realized he'd been shot.
We've also learned the victim has
been released from the hospital.
Anyone with any information about
this incident is asked to contact the
Martinsville Police Department
Investigations Unit at 276-403-5301.
