night on Cherry Hill Drive, near the
intersection of Shenandoah Avenue.
A car apparently crashed into a
house.
There's still no word this
morning on any injuries or the
seriousness of the gas leak.
But Roanoke City dispatchers tell
us the intersection is open.

Corporal Eric Sutphin was gunned
down more than a year ago during a
manhunt in Blacksburg.

washed cars trying to raise money for
Sutphin's memorial scholarship fund.
Any child whose parent works as a
New River Valley law enforcement
officer can apply for the scholarship.
The department held this same

onto the victims of deadly disasters in
Asia.

organization raised money for relief

and Saturday at Valley View Mall as
shoppers tried to make history and help
a local hospital set a new world record

They did it.
Carilion needed to take blood
pressure from two thousand-303 people
in 24 hours to achieve that new record.
The preliminary count, shows they
beat that old record by about 50
people.
The screenings weren't all about
the contest, but mainly to make sure
people catch and correct high blood
pressure also known as the silent
killer.

of World War Two - resident of a Tokyo
neighborhood were ducking for cover...

More than 16-thousand residents
were evacuated as experts defused an
unexploded bomb, believed to have been
dropped by the U.S. during World War
II.
The rusty one ton bomb was
defused by the Japanese Self-Defence
Force.
The bomb, believed to have been
dropped by a B-29 bomber, was found by
construction workers in March.
Japanese officials said the
evacuation order was lifted two hours
after experts started working on
defusing the bomb.

In other news, some parents are upset
about proposed changes to the special
education system.
What they don't like about the
regulations is that changes could be
made to their child's special education
services without their consent, parents
would be removed from the functional
behavioral assessment team, and they
would receive fewer progress reports on
their child.

This new playground at Rocky Mount
Elementary is designed so that all
children can play.. .even those in
wheelchairs or with special needs.
That's important at this school
because at least 40 of its student are
either physically or mentally
challenged.

boaters with boating season just three
weeks away.

Yesterday kicked off the
beginning of National Boat Safety Week.
At Claytor Lake State Park,
owners were able to get their boats
inspected and make sure they're
properly outfitted with safety gear.
Rescue sticks were also available
for boaters to practice throwing at
targets in the water.
Even with all this - Coast Guard
officials say the most important thing
anyone can do on the water is wear a
life jacket.

South Florida man apparently felt
sharing his lottery winnings wasn't
part of the deal.

His wife, Donna Campbell,
appeared before a judge this week
demanding half of the jackpot earnings.
She said she first got suspicious
when her husband disappeared for a week
and congratulatory messages started
popping up in the mail.
So, she googled his name and

won 19 million bucks... 600 thousand
each before taxes.
Unfortunately for her -the wife
didn't get the ending she'd hoped
for...the judge dismissed the case.
