County High school will not being
playing for Virginia Tech on a football
scholarship.

VO-NAT Tech has withdrawn its
scholarship offer to recruit Peter
Rose.
The 18-year-old is charged with
two counts of distributing marijuana
and two counts of distributing drugs
within a thousand feet of a school.
Rose was arrested Friday.
In a statement released today,
Hokie head football coach Frank Beamer
said, "Each scholarship offer we make
is contingent upon a number of
requirements, one of which is
maintaining the high standards required
of each recruit in their community,
school and on the football field. I am
disappointed that this action was
necessary,"
Rose's arraignment is set for
May 30th.
Rose is a two-time Friday
Football Extra Player of the Week as a
quarterback, who was expected to play
defensive back in college.

Botetourt County jail building.
For the last several weeks,
demolition teams have been stripping
material from the interior of the
building.
Today, they got the okay to take
it outside.
The jail opened in 1965 and

that hit seventeen days ago.
A state run television program
recently showed the Senior General
inspecting supplies and comforting
homeless victims.
The military junta also announced
a three-day mourning period for the
victims, while the country's neighbors
made plans to help distribute foreign
aid to survivors.
Reports suggest at least
78-thousand people were killed in the
storm and another 56-thousand are still
missing.

LOCAL aid has arrived in Myanmar.
Concord-based Gleaning for the
World says a pre-paid shipment of rice
entered the country on Sunday.
Gleaning is also sending water,
blankets, and survival kits to help the
cyclone victims.
They're hoping to send more aid,
but directors say they'll need
donations to make that happen.

Center. A weak area of high pressure
will surrender to a quick-moving
clipper system tonight and Tuesday.
This will usher in some showers over
the next 24hours and then some cooler
weather through mid-week. Clouds will
thicken tonight with a few showers
possible. The best chance of showers
will arrive before sunrise Tuesday
morning and continue through the
evening, with breezy conditions. With
the low moving through, high
temperatures will be a bit odd Tuesday.
Southwestern hometowns will see highs
in the upper 60s to near 70, while
eastern hometowns should have highs in
the mid and upper 70s. We may see a bit
of drizzle Wednesday morning, then
mostly cloudy and a high of 70. A
strong ridge of high pressure that has
been out west will move east and set-up
a perfect pattern for sunshine lovers.
At the moment, Thursday through the
weekend looks partly to mostly sunny
and seasonably warm with highs in the
70s. Even some low 80s possible by the

Mike Maxey, the president of
Roanoke College was the guest speaker.

scholarship and 25 percent Personal
life.
The Female Winner was Laurel
MacMillan from Blacksburg who will
attend U-V-A in the Fall to run cross
Country, and the Boy's winner was
Joseph Girani from Franklin County who
is headed to the Naval Academy.

Wisconsin Eau-Claire, which is
three hours away from fellow Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Association
member Wisconsin-Whitewater, won this
year's title in dramatic fashion.

Eau-Claire this afternoon to force a
winner take all game tomorrow on a
windy day at Moyer Sports Complex.
And things looked good with 2
outs in the bottom of the 7th, with

to left field, and that will score
Katie Stalker from 2nd and the lead was
down to just 1 run.
After a walk to load the bases,
Michelle Butkus will hit a nubber
towards the second base bag, the play
is made eventually but the throw to 2nd
is bobbled and everyone is safe and the

the end of May.
He's been the circuit court judge
in Campbell County for 31 years.
Today, the Board of Supervisors
recognized Johnston for his service and

he's accomplished.
