the city is using more biodiesel,

o'clock this afternoon in the
18-hundred block of Hanover Avenue.
Roanoke police say they found a
man bleeding outside a house.
Investigators say the victim was
conscious when he was taken to the
hospital.
His name is not being released
at this time-- and police say he is not

Salem's first murder in more than a
decade will stay behind bars.

VO-NAT This morning a judge denied bond
for Bryan Sheppard.
Sheppard is the man accused of
shooting and killing James "Rich"
Fleshman in a Food Lion parking last
month.
Investigators say Sheppard had
been stalking Fleshman and was upset he
was dating his estranged wife.
Sheppard is being held at the
Roanoke County Jail.
His preliminary hearing is
scheduled for June 27th.

It took Judge Pat Dougherty about
20 minutes to find her "guilty as
charged" ...for embezzling more than
50-thousand dollars from the churches.
Rowe told the judge she borrowed
the money to help pay her husband's
medical expenses.
Church member Mary Sutphin says
Rowe and her husband used most of it to
remodel their home.

charged with driving under the
influence on Interstate 81 in Smyth
County.
Today, he pleaded guilty to
reckless driving instead - as well as
refusing to take a Breathalyzer test.
Blankenship will lose his
driver's license for a year, and he's
ordered to pay a 100-dollar fine.
He's currently on leave from the
bench, and his attorney said
Blankenship has NO intentions on
resigning.

Police arrived to find a man
screaming and waving a sword.
57 year-old Tony Burnett of
Blacksburg did not hurt anyone, but
police say he threatened them.
He was taken in for an emergency
custody order - for possible mental
problems.
Burnett is also charged with
assault and disorderly conduct.

his seizure over the weekend.
They say the 76-year-old
Massachussets senator is in good
spirits.
Kennedy's expected to stay in the
hospital for the next couple of days.
Doctors say a combination of
radiation and chemotherapy is generally
used to treat this type of cancerous
tumor.
Kennedy has represented
Massachusetts in the U-S Senate since
19-62.
He is one of only six senators in
U-S history to serve more than 40

crimes at the Sheriff's Office.
The funding comes from Alicia's
Law -- passed this year by the General
Assembly.
A task force that investigates
crimes across the state will also
benefit.
They're getting a new
intellegence analyst, software, and
money to train investigators.
Alicia's Law is dedicated to
Alicia Kozakiewicz (Coze-uh-kev-itch) -
a Pennsylvania teen who was kidnapped
and abused by an internet predator.
Kozakiewicz was made an honorary
deputy this morning with the Bedford
County Sheriff's Office.

improve the reliability its service in
the New River Valley
The company is planning a 15
million dollar upgrade for Montgomery
County, Blacksburg, and Christiansburg.
The Falling Branch- Merrimac
project will involve construction of
eight miles of transmission line, and
AEP is hoping to have it in service by
2014.
on Thursday, June 5th at Christiansburg
High School from 5 to 8 PM, before
asking for approval to construct the
new line.

a government study in 2006.
Researchers videotaped more than
240 drivers for a year in the
washington DC metropolitan area.
They discovered 80- percent of
crashes involve distracted drivers.

were the biggest distraction.
And 18 to 20 year olds got into 4
times as many crashes as any other age

Committee gave away a twenty thousand
dollar scholarship to Chad Jarrett from
Northside.
Jarrett is ranked number 1 in his
class and carries robust 4 point oh-7
G-P-A. He plans on studying
engineering at Virginia Tech in the
Fall.
Jarrett has played golf on the
Vikings' varsity squad for the past 4
seasons and is also a member of the
Northside Baseball Team. He threw a
no-hitter for the Vikings against
Hidden Valley back in 2-thousand and 6.
