playground.

Emmanuele Harris was found behind the
College Hill Recreation Center around
7:45 yesterday morning.

leave a hole in the community.

looking for a masked gunman who forced
his way into a home in Danville.

The incident took place on

Colonial Court around two o' clock.

According to police, the suspect
demanded money and fired several shots.

No one was seriously injured.

right, when someone grabbed her purse,
pulling her over a shopping cart.

Then the two men ran to
their car to drive away.

Martin were arrested.

Police are still looking for one

other person, seen here entering the
store with Martin.

will surrender to a quick-moving
clipper system today. This will usher
in some showers over the next 24hours
and then some cooler weather through
mid-week. The best chance of showers
will arrive before sunrise and continue
through the evening, with breezy
conditions. With the low moving
through, high temperatures will be a
bit odd Tuesday. Southwestern hometowns
will see highs in the upper 60s to near
70, while eastern hometowns should have
highs in the mid and upper 70s. We may
see a bit of drizzle Wednesday morning,
then mostly cloudy and a high of 70. A
strong ridge of high pressure that has
been out west will move east and set-up
a perfect pattern for sunshine lovers.

saying about the decision to close
Forest Park Elementary School.

Now P-T-A leaders are taking their
fight to next level...filing a class
action complaint with the U-S
Department of Education.

Park was a difficult decision.

But the district's graduation
rate has reached a crisis point, and
the school board is taking action to
save students who are at risk of not
receiving a basic education.

playing for Virginia Tech on a football
scholarship, this after Friday's drug
bust at Amherst County Highschool.

VO-NAT Tech has withdrawn its

scholarship offer to recruit Peter
Rose.

The 18-year-old is charged with
two counts of distributing marijuana
and two counts of distributing drugs
within a thousand feet of a school.

Rose was arrested Friday.

In a statement released
yesterday, Hokie head football coach
Frank Beamer said, "Each scholarship
offer we make is contingent upon a
number of requirements, one of which is
maintaining the high standards required
of each recruit in their community,
school and on the football field. I am
disappointed that this action was
necessary,"

Rose's arraignment is set for
May 30th.

Rose is a two-time Friday
Football Extra Player of the Week as a

quarterback, who was expected to play
defensive back in college.

From building to tearing down...

Crews began leveling the old
Botetourt County jail building.

For the last several weeks,
demolition teams have been stripping
material from the interior of the
building.

The jail opened in 1965 and
closed at the end of last year when the
NEW public safety building and jail
opened its doors.

decided to hang up his black robe.

Judge Sam Johnston is retiring at
the end of May.

He's been the circuit court judge
in Campbell County for 31 years.

Yesterday, the Board of
Supervisors recognized Johnston for his
service and presented him with a book
filled with photos of the community.

Johnston says leaving the job
will be hard, but he's proud of what
he's accomplished.

Center. A weak area of high pressure
will surrender to a quick-moving
clipper system today. This will usher
in some showers over the next 24hours
and then some cooler weather through
mid-week. The best chance of showers
will arrive before sunrise and continue
through the evening, with breezy
conditions. With the low moving
through, high temperatures will be a
bit odd Tuesday. Southwestern hometowns
will see highs in the upper 60s to near
70, while eastern hometowns should have
highs in the mid and upper 70s. We may
see a bit of drizzle Wednesday morning,
then mostly cloudy and a high of 70. A
strong ridge of high pressure that has
been out west will move east and set-up
a perfect pattern for sunshine lovers.
At the moment, Thursday through the
weekend looks partly to mostly sunny
and seasonably warm with highs in the
70s. Even some low 80s possible by the
weekend. TUESDAY: Showers/Storms
