By traveling at the speed limit,
vehicles use less gas.

Conserving fuel means less trips
to the pump where gas prices will be
increased with the higher demand this
weekend.

And by slowing down you're less
likely to drive recklessly, thus saving
lives.

John McCain's rejection of Texas
preacher John Hagee was weeks in the
making.

(SOT SEN. JOHN MCCAIN/R-PRESIDENTIAL

CANDIDATE): "THE COMMENTS MADE MOST

RECENTLY BY PASTOR HAGEE ARE JUST TOO
MUCH..."

Criticism had been mounting since the
T-V pastor endorsed McCain back in

February. Hagee was already
controversial - he called Catholicism a
false

cult and suggested Hurricane Katrina
was punishment for gay rights.

(SOT don't font GRAPHIC HAGEE

AUDIO/BASEBALL CARD): "THEN GOD SENT A

HUNTER...HITLER WAS A HUNTER."

But it wasn't until a decade old
recording surfaced that McCain had
enough.

In the sermon, Hagee suggests that God
sent Adolf Hitler to force the Jewish

people to the promised land.

(SOT don't font GRAPHIC HAGEE

AUDIO/BASEBALL CARD): "THOSE WHO CAME
FOUNDED

ISRAEL - THOSE WHO DID NOT WENT THRU
THE HELL OF THE HOLOCAUST."

(SOT SEN. JOHN MCCAIN/R-PRESIDENTIAL

CANDIDATE): "I THINK HIS STATEMENT IS

CRAZY AND UNACCEPTABLE."

The campaign knew the rejection would
draw quick comparisons to Barack Obama

and HIS controversial pastor, the
Reverend Jeremiah Wright...Comparisons
the

candidate moved quickly to de-fuse.

(SOT SEN. JOHN MCCAIN/R-PRESIDENTIAL

CANDIDATE): "I DIDN'T ATTEND THEIR
CHURCH

FOR 20 YEARS. AND I'M NOT A MEMBER OF
THEIR CHURCH."

Hagee is nowhere near as valuable to
McCain now as he was back in February.

At the time, McCain was desperately
trying to attract hard-core
conservatives

and evangelicals.

He's made progress in uniting
Republicans - now he needs to appeal
to

moderates and independents ahead of the

general election.

(oncam)

After a long delay, the campaign's
releasing McCain's medical records

today....Access is highly restricted -
reporters have 3 hours to view about

400 pages and can't photo-copy
anything.

loyal following in central and western
Virginia.

They were regulars on the TV
program, "Saturday Session," WDBJ-7's
version of American Bandstand.

And soon, News Seven's Joe
Dashiell reports, they'll be back in
the spotlight.

OQ= The Dazzlers found success on the

regional music scene, and their
appearances on WDBJ7's Saturday Session
helped spread their fame.

That connection is part of the
story the Blue Ridge Institute is now
researching for a coming exhibit on the
music of the 50s, and the local bands
that kept teenagers dancing in western
Virginia.

collectors in Europe know more about
vintage virginia music than we do.. but
that's something he hopes to change,
when the Dazzlers and other local bands
take center stage at the Blue Ridge

SS=HOLD Moore says the Blue Ridge

Institute is still collecting
information on Rockabilly bands that
performed in central and western
Virginia during the 50s, and the small
record labels that recorded them.

He also hopes to hear from more
bands that appeared on Saturday
Session, and other TV dance party

programs.
