TRAFFIC ALERT BANNER

We have a traffic alert in
Lynchburg.

An accident in the 74 hundred
block of Timberlake Road in Lynchburg
is blocking westbound traffic.

A utility pole has been damaged,
and Appalachian Power says fixing it

will be a lengthy process that is
expected to last much of the day.

Traffic is being detoured into
the eastbound lanes, but a Lynchburg
Police are asking drivers to avoid the
area if possible.

GRAPHIC=none That accident will slow down

drivers in Lynchburg. The high price
of gas is keeping many others home this
Memorial Day Weekend.

Triple-A Mid-Atlantic projects the
number of Memorial Day travelers will
drop this year.

That's consistent with the
national trend of drivers who say
soaring gas prices are keeping them
home for the holiday.

It's estimated that over 800-thousand
Virginians will travel more than
50-miles from home.

That's a decrease of more than
three-percent from last year.

CHANNEL=C VO NAT

Earlier this week, triple-A
reported the average price for
self-serve regular is 3-73 a gallon.

That's 30-cents more than gas
cost a month ago, and 67-cents more
than this time last year.

Despite the decrease in traffic
volume, a significant number of cars
will be on the highways.

State Police want to remind
everyone of their presence, and to obey
the rules of the road.
