department is investigating a homicide.
They say Wilber West was shot to
death inside his home on Leewood Road
in Lynch Station.
His friends got worried when he
didn't show up to church this morning.
Police say they were the ones who
found the 69-year-old.
West's body will be sent to
Roanoke for an autopsy.

State Police say a teen driver
didn't look properly before changing
lanes near the Orange Avenue exit.
The driver hit a car causing both
people to lose control.
Then, a third driver ended up
crashing into one of the cars.
Some people started driving the
wrong way on the highway entrance ramp
to get around the accident.
Two people were taken to the
hospital.
Their injuries aren't believed to
be life threatening.

There was another round of deadly
weather today to our west - this time
in Minnesota.

A two-year old child was killed
when a tornado rolled through Hugo,
Minnesota earlier today. As many as 20
other people are unaccounted for.
Dozens of homes were damaged as
you can see in this video.
Tornadoes were also reported in
Illinois, Iowa and Kansas this
afternoon.

Two weeks ago, the city of
Roanoke launched a new webcam on top of
the Star.
It's appropiately called Star Cam
and since its installation, the webpage
has had more than 130-thousand hits.
In fact, people are viewing the
cam from all over the world.
The city received an e-mail from
a U-S serviceman stationed in Japan who
grew up here.
He was actually able to see his
father and sister wave to him from the
deck of the Star.

in North Carolina turned tragic this
weekend.

State Park officials are being
tight-lipped about the circumstances
that led up to a child's death, but
they say the child fell a "considerable
distance" of a cliff yesterday morning
and died.
Officials do say at least one
parent was nearby, when the accident
happend.
The park superintendent calls
this Chimney Rock's worst injury since
the state took over a year and a half
ago.

from the hospital today, one day after
being attacked by a leopard.

Zoo officials say the man suffered head
wounds while cleaning the cat's holding
area.
Some zoo visitors were shocked by
the news.
A few saw the zookepper being
taken away by ambulance.

Zoo officials say the leopard
that attacked the zookeeper hadn't been
on exhibit since giving birth to a cub
in December.
They insists sightseers were
never in danger.
This is the first attack of any
kind at the zoo.
There are no plans to close the
leopard exhibit.

began today...

down to the planet's arctic circle to
learn if ice beneath its surface ever
had the right chemistry to support
life.
NASA approved the mission, known
as Phoenix, after the Mars orbiter
Odyssey found ice surrounding the polar

Southwest winds begin increasing heat
and humidity on Memorial Day. Highs are
forecast in the mid 80s. Most of the
day will be dry, with steadily
increasing clouds during the afternoon.
Please note, we can't rule out a
passing shower or storm in our western
counties by mid to late afternoon.
Warm and muggy Monday night with lows
in the low to mid 60s. The cloud deck
will thicken with a chance of showers
after midnight.
A cold front sagging into the area will
provide showers and possible
thunderstorms Tuesday. Highs in the mid
80s. Rain could be moderate to heavy
Tuesday night in some locations, with
lows near 60.
Wednesday begins with showers and
clouds, however, as the front drops
into the Carolinas, expect increasing
sunshine during the afternoon. Cooler,
with highs in the low to mid 70s.
Thursday through Friday call for plenty
of sunshine and highs in the 70s.

over as they prepared for the Coke
6-hundred. Got to deal with the
longest race of the season and do so
with the knowledge that the green flag
drops with the sun still shining, but
the Checkered Flag will wave under the
lights.

Brian Vickers who led for part of
the race in the early going, will lose
a tire and hit the wall, hard to drive
with just 3 wheels, the one he lost
goes bouncing along the race track and

a souvenir in the process.
Later in the Race Dale Earnhardt
Junior is leading when he has a right
front tire go down and he hits the
wall, skimming along then get tagged
from behind by J.J. Yeley. Junior still
finished 5th.
In the end it was Kasey Kahne who
took the lead with under 5 laps to go
when Tony Stewart blew a tire who would
win the 6-hundred, he also won the
All-Star Race last weekend, becoming
only the 6th driver to win both.

continuing to pick up where his father
left off.

Robbie ``Kaptain'' Knievel jumped
over 24 delivery trucks last night,
breaking his father's record of 14
buses at an amusement park near
Cincinnati.
The jump on his motorcycle was a
record 220 feet.
His father Evel Knievel jumped
115 feet at the same park back in
19-75.
Knievel died last year at the age
of 69.
