State police are working on a

fatal wreck in Botetourt County tonight
involving a fire truck.

Sargeant Bob Carpentieri says the
fire truck from the Eagle Rock
Volunteer fire department was
responding to a different wreck near
Kelleys Market in the Eagle Rock
section of the county when it crashed.

While headed north, the fire
truck collided head-on with a pick-up
truck -- killing two people inside the
pick-up.

The driver of the fire truck was
taken to Roanoke Memorial -- no word on
his injuries.

County -- this one involving a
motorcycle.

It happened at around five this

afternoon on Route 8, just south of
Route 678.

State Police say 30-year-old
Michael Dale Andrews of Dublin lost
control of his motorcycle, hit an
embankment, and was thrown.

Authorities say he was wearing a
helmet.

The accident is still under
investigation.

in Rockbridge County.

This car flipped over in Natural
Bridge Station.

No word on how the wreck
happened, or if anyone was injured.

many as tornados ravaged several
states.. in Iowa and Minnesota at least

eight people are dead.

The storms caused widespread
damage and casualties in Kansas and
Texas... and Oklahoma was hit as well.

In all.. 160 tornadoes in just
the past four days alone and more are
expected.

DEVASTATION.

THIS VIDEO SHOWS A TORNADO RIPPING
THROUGH A CLUSTER OF BARNS IN
OKLAHOMA...

SHREDDING IT TO JUST PIECES OF SCRAP.

The rain just started pouring like
crazy. We turned and looked to our
left

over here and that's when we seen the
tornado forming...all the kind of
debris

being thrown around we heard glass
breaking, the doors were rattling .

...FORTUNATELY, NO ONE THERE WAS HURT.

..BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE SUNDAY WHEN
MANY DIED. IN IOWA...THE MAJORITY OF

WHOM, ACCORDING TO THE MAYOR OF
PARKERSBURG, WERE JUST TRYING TO FIND
SHELTER

IN THEIR BASEMENTS, WHEN THEIR HOMES
COLLAPSED ON TOP OF THEM.

THE SURVIVORS ARE LEFT RECOUNTING THEIR
MOMENTS OF TERROR.

I mean it's, for a mom, I don't know.
Knowing that your son is in the
building.

That was the worst thing in the world

for me.

IN MINNESOTA...THE TORNADO KILLED A

TWO-YEAR-OLD CHILD.

THE TRAIL OF THE TWISTER LEFT BEHIND
LEVELED HOMES...CONTORTED CARS AND

BEWILDERED RESIDENTS.

The devastation is very real. The
residents are very real. Seeing the
looks in

their eyes they just almost can't
believe it's happened.

AUTHORITIES IN MINNESOTA SAY MANY WERE

AWAY FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND, POSSIBLY

SAVING SOME LIVES.

neighborhood want to know who's
responsible for a weekend murder.

VO-NAT 69-year-old Wilber West was found

shot to death in front of his Leewood
Road home Sunday morning.

body.

They went looking for him when he
did not show up for Sunday services.

Friends say West never had an
enemy.

They remember him as a person who
kept to himself and helped others - and
they can't understand why anyone would
want him dead.

"The Purple Heart Monument" was
unveiled this morning in the Hill City.

and shows us how a mistake on the
monument is being fixed.

Chris Green reads from
Lynchburg's newest attraction.

"At monument terrace, the wounded
and fallen at Lynchburg, Virginia, and
it's imminent surroundings."

Words that mean a lot to the
Veterans who worked to get this
monument in place.

Steve Bozeman/Vietnam Veteran:
"It's a great tribute, to all the 276
vets who died over the years from
Lynchburg."

The Purple Heart Monument is also
an honor for wounded veterans who
received the medal.

Like Frank Leonard, who earned
the medal twice.

Frank Leonard/Purple Heart
Recipient: "A bunch of us guys have
been talking about this for a long time
and it finally got here. It means a
whole lot to us purple heart
recipients."

The monument is made of granite.

It features quotes from
Shakespeare, and engravings of the

purple heart medal.

There are a few mistakes on the
monument. If you look closely, you can
see the word Americas is missing an
apostrophe. Also, the word 'its' has
an apostrophe it doesn't need. The
mistakes were made by a company in
Vermont that made the monument, and
they'll be footing the bill to fix it.

The errors should be gone in a
matter of weeks.

Meanwhile visitors like Tammy
Coleman say it's hard to tell the
difference.

Tammy Coleman/Monument Visitor:
"I hadn't really noticed any
grammatical errors or anything until
someone pointed it out to me and then I
was looking for it."

"I was thinking of the memorial
behind it. The purple heart, and
everything it has meant to our country
with the people serving."

So while it may be a flawed
tribute, many say it's a fitting salute
to America's bravest.

fallen heroes who were from the Roanoke
Valley.

Attendees prayed together.. and
placed a wreath in the Plaza.

Among the observers were World
War Two and Korean War veterans.

One Korean War vet reminded us

today to remember those who fought for
us.
