won't press any charges in an
early-morning stabbing because the
victim won't help them.
Police were called to Yorktown
Avenue around three o'clock this
morning.
Officers found a victim with a
"superficial" wound.
That person is not cooperating
with police and won't say exactly what
happened.
In an unrelated incident, crews
were also called to an apartment fire
on Country Place Lane.
Officials say it started from
grease left on the stove.
The family was home at the time,
but everyone made it out safely with no
injuries.

three weeks before they were found by
relatives yesterday.

needed to a tackle a blaze at a
recycling plant in Germany- and even
that wasn't enough.

the German city of Ulm.
Thick black smoke greeted crews
as they tried to approach the site.
Firefighters believe it could
take a couple of days for them to
completely extinguish the blaze.
The plant, which was used to

handle on..
At this point- one firefighter
has been injured.
No word on the cause of the fire.

vehicle in Iraq, believed to belong to
US forces, engulfed in flames.
This- after allegedly being hit
by a roadside bomb near the eastern
Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr city.

Fighting Vehicle was on the move when
it was attacked.
It's not known if there were any
casualties and there was no immediate
comment by the U.S. Army.

seen since Vietnam.

To combat the problem, thousands of
private counselors are offering free
services to troops returning home
from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The volunteers are needed because
there's just 14-hundred mental health
professionals to serve 1-point-4
million active-duty personnel.
Veterans groups warn it's nowhere near
enough to meet what amounts to a mental
health crisis.

The antidepressant Celexa may help head
and neck cancer patients.
The results of a pilot study suggest
that - besides reducing the risk of
depression - the drug can diminish the
impact of cancer treatment on quality
of life.
New trials have begun to see if the
benefit holds true with other
antidepressants.

People who have an under-active or
over-active thyroid - but few symptoms
- appear to be at increased danger of
heart disease.
Almost 60 years of data shows the risk
to be about 20-percent higher.
Doctors hope the information can give
them a better way to spot heart disease

pizza delivery driver was robbed at gun
point in Lynchburg around 10 Saturday
night.
The robbery took place in 29
hundred block of Forest Hills Court,
next to the store.
The driver says three men wearing
black and red bandanas approached him
One of them had a gun and took
his wallet.
Police are still searching for
the robbers.

chain reaction on 5-81over the weekend.

State Police say a teen driver
cut off another driver while changing
lanes near the Orange Avenue exit
yesterday.
The driver hit a car causing both
people to lose control.
Then, a third driver ended up
crashing into one of the cars.
Some people started driving the

around the accident.
Two people were taken to the
hospital.
Their injuries aren't believed to
be life threatening.

clouds, however, as the front drops
into the Carolinas, expect increasing
sunshine during the afternoon. Cooler,

Scientists overseeing the Phoenix
Courtesy: Mars Lander say images sent back by the
probe show a landscape similar to what
can be found in Earth's permafrost
regions.
Some pictures show patterns in
the soil that could be related to the
freezing and thawing of ground ice.
The lander will spend a week
checking its instruments before it
starts a 90-day mission of studying
whether the northern polar region
possesses the raw ingredients needed

seeing the view from the Mill Mountain
Star- without actually being there- is
a huge hit.

Two weeks ago, the city of
Roanoke launched a new webcam on top of
the Star.
It's appropiately called Star Cam
and since its installation, the webpage
has had more than 130-thousand hits.
In fact, people are viewing the
cam from all over the world.
The city received an e-mail from
a U-S serviceman stationed in Japan who
grew up here.
He was actually able to see his
father and sister wave to him from the
deck of the Star.

been able to stay close to home the
past 2 weeks - with back to back races
at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

and looked to extend his Sprint cup
Points lead.
Brian Vickers led for part of the
race early, lost a tire and hit the
wall.
The tire went bouncing along the
race track and into a camper on the
infield.
Later in the race- Dale
Earnhardt, Junior was leading when his
right front tire went out..he hit the
wall and then got hit from behind.
Junior finished 5th.
In the end- it was Kasey Kahne
who took the lead with under 5 laps to
go when Tony Stewart blew a tire.
Kasey Khane won the 600, he also
won the All-Star Race last weekend,
becoming only the 6th driver to win
both.

Danica was running 7th late in

sending her into a spin and ending her
day.
Scott Dixon will be pretty happy
for the foreseeable future, he started
on the pole and won the race.
It was his first ever win at
Indy, and afterwards he took the
traditional drink of Milk.
