He spent almost three years defending
President Bush's decisions. Now --
Scott McClellan is attacking them in
his memoir.

SCOTT MCCLELLAN / FMR. WHITE HOUSE
PRESS SECRETARY - "IT'S GOT AN
IMPORTANT MESSAGE THAT I THINK PEOPLE
NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT. AND TODAY I
WANT TO LET IT KIND OF SPEAK FOR
ITSELF, LET PEOPLE GET A CHANCE TO LOOK
AT IT."

In the book, "What Happened: Inside the
Bush White House and Washington's
Culture of Deception" - the former
press secretary and Bush loyalist takes
the administration to task for the way
it handled the run-up to the war in

Iraq.

He claims President Bush and his top
advisers relied on propaganda instead
of the truth to sell the war to the
American public.

McClellan also admits in 2003 he
unwittingly lied during the CIA leak
investigation when it came to questions
on Karl Rove's and Scooter Libby's
involvement.

SCOTT MCCLELLAN / FMR. WHITE HOUSE
PRESS SECRETARY / OCTOBER 2003: -
"THOSE INDIVIDUALS ASSURED ME THEY WERE
NOT INVOLVED IN THIS."

McClellan says he did not know that was
untrue until two years later.

Susan Roberts / CBS NEWS / THE WHITE
HOUSE: - "the White House says
President Bush will not comment, that
he has more important matters at hand.
But, some of McClellan's former
colleagues are taking it personally...
saying he never spoke up during his
time with the administration."

DAN BARTLETT / FORMER WHITE HOUSE
COUNSEL: TO SEE ALL THIS UNFOLD RIGHT

NOW IN A BOOK LIKE THIS IS DEEPLY
DISAPPOINTING."

Former White House Counsel Dan Bartlett
went on to say, the only friends
McClellan had -- he just lost but, the
former press secretary says -- his
shift from loyal defender to sharp
critic is his way of learning from his
mistakes. Susan Roberts, CBS News, The
White House.

The Tennis Network On a windy day at the French :00 Open, the top seeded lady barely
survived her opening match. Maria
Sharapova was taken to the wire by
little known Russian Evgeniya Rodina
before advancing in the first round.

Sharapova made it look easy in
the opening set winning 6-1, before
dropping the second 3-6. The 19 year
old Rodina, ranked 104th in the world
made Sharpova earn everything in the
third set which went to a tiebreaker
before Sharapova prevailed 8-6. She'll
play American qualifyier Bethanie
Mattek in round two.
