shooting involving a sheriff's deputy
in Pulaski County.

It's off of route 11 just over
the bridge to Radford.

VO-NAT We understand a deputy responded

to an assault call just after 5:00 at
the Nicewonder Way Trailer Park.

Investigators say when the deputy
got out of his vehicle, he was
assaulted by a man holding a knife and
a blunt object.

The deputy then shot the man
twice, killing him.

That deputy is now on paid
administrative leave pending an
investigation by the state police.

12001ESSB 21-year-old Alphonso Destin is
charged with first degree murder in the
death of Lynch Station resident Wilber
West.

Monday The sheriff believes Destin and
several others tried to rob West before
killing him last Friday night.

He describes Destin as "one of
the primary suspects" in this case, but
says there is at least one other male

death is scheduled to be executed in
July.

sentenced to die for the bludgeoning
death of a co-worker in 20-01.

The court delayed Emmett's
execution in October while it
considered is lethal injection was
constitutional.

The court eventually upheld the
method of execution.

State police say Nancy Mae Ayers
was hit by another car at the

making their debut at the college world
series today.

Unfortunately for Tech fans,
their patience was not rewarded.

head coach Scot Thomas.

Angela Tincher struck out 9 of
the 22 batters she faced in the game
and she gave up just two hits in 6
strong innings.

The Hokies tried to give her some
run support as they got two runners on
in the 5th and two more on in the 6th,
but they couldn't get anyone home.

The Aggies finally got a run home
in the botttom of the sixth as Tech
third baseman Charisse Maridonda made
this throwing error to first on Megan
Gibson's grounder. The wide throw
would allow the eventual game winning
run to score as A&M took a 1-tonothing
lead into the seventh.

Gibson, who had lost only one
game this season, closed out a complete
game nine strikeout performance as the
Aggies beat Tech 1-to-nothing and sned
the Hokies to the losers' bracket.
