got out of his cruiser, we're told the
deputy was assaulted.

21-year-old Alphonso Lamont
Destin is charged with first degree
murder in the death of Wilber West.
Both men are from Lynch Station.
Investigators believe Destin and
one other person tried to rob West
before killing him.
The arrest was made less than a
week after members of West's church
found him shot to death inside his home
on Leewood Road.

after she ran a stop sign on U-S 220.
State Police say Nancy Mae
Ayers didn't stop at the intersection
of Route 919 and 220 near Boones Mill.
Her car was hit by a car headed south
on 220. The crash happened around 8:15
this morning.
Ayers was taken to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital where she died this
afternoon.
She was 64 years old.

Texas authorities raided the
polygamist compound two months ago
after one child claimed to be raped.

New York's governor: Not so fast.
The Governor told state agencies
to recognize gay marriages that are
legally performed in other states and
countries.
Now the state Senate's
Republicans are questioning whether his
actions are
constitutional.

on June 17 - just over a month after
the state's landmark decision to

Officials chose the date because

Unfortunately for Tech fans,
their patience was not rewarded.

Angela Tincher struck out 9 of
the 22 batters she faced in the game
and she gave up just two hits in 6
strong innings.
The Hokies tried to give her some
run support as they got two runners on
in the 5th and two more on in the 6th,
but they couldn't get anyone home.
The Aggies finally got a run home
in the botttom of the sixth as Tech
third baseman Charisse Mariconda made
this throwing error to first on Megan
Gibson's grounder. The wide throw
would allow the eventual game winning
run to score as A&M took a 1-tonothing
lead into the seventh.
Gibson, who had lost only one
game this season, closed out a complete
game nine strikeout performance as the
Aggies beat Tech 1-to-nothing and sned
the Hokies to the losers' bracket.
