times.

"Rebekah Wright: The rate that I
was going. I would not be alive today
without the staff ."

Today, she's clean - but she
worries how others will fight their
addictions once the program ends.

"The suicide rate is going to go
up. The rate of overdoses will go up."

There are concerns the Central
Virginia Community Services board says

it considered before voting to stop the
program.

Ultimately, they say their
decision came down to money.

Nancy Cottingham: "The program
has been losing money for many years.
It's a very valuable service to the
community, but we couldn't continue to
support it."

For just one person to go through
the 28-day program, it costs more than
7-thousand dollars. And since most
patients never pay that amount,
Community Services says they simply
can't afford to keep this program
running.

"There are no other sources of
funding for this particular program.
We're pretty much dependent on state
money to pay for the high cost of this
program and it's a very expensive
program."

But those pushing to save the
program say the center should give
itself time to find other sources of
funding.

They say not doing that will lead
to problems even bigger than substance
abuse.

Teresa Fischer: "Addicts are not
going to be able to get treatment which
in turn is going to cause problems with
the hospitals and the courts."

"This is bothersome to us and
we're very upset about it, but the
reality is we can't afford to continue
providing this program."

And until they can find the
money, they're still planning to close
June 30th.

"TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE - I DON'T LIKE IT
AT ALL!"

New survey numbers out today show
41-MILLION trips by air were avoided in
the

past year because the process has
become just too aggravating. From the

long

lines....to all the add-on fees....to
inevitable delays......And that can be
a

good day.

(SOT MELISSA SUBER/AIR TRAVELER ):

"IF I FLY OUT OF CHICAGO, MY FLIGHT'S
USUALLY CANCELLED..(laughs)."

It's not JUST the airlines' bottom line
that's taking a beating. One estimate

of the total economic impact of all
these frequent fliers flying LESS

frequently tops 67-BILLION-dollars.

The numbers aren't pretty:

75-percent of air travelers believe the
system is broken or in need of major

fixes....nearly 40-percent say their
time isn't respected ..and the more you

fly ...(need something here)...

(nats)

The airlines say they're doing the best
they can....They blame a glut of

competition, the slumping economy, and
above all else.....oil. Pain at the

pump takes on a whole new meaning when
your tank holds 60-thousand gallons.

(SOT MOS):

"I KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE
UP THE MONEY SOMEWHERE. AND IT'S
EITHER

RAISE THE PRICE OF THE TICKET OR
THEY'RE GONNA HAVE TO CHARGE FOR THE

EXTRAS."

How about both? Fares have risen
across the board and now some airlines
are

charging to check a second bag.
American's even charging for the first.
Many

have stopped serving any food. With
all the add-ons It's hard not to blame

passengers for feeling
nickel-and-dimed.

(SOT LEETY BALDERO/AIR TRAVELER):

"PRETTY SOON WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY
FOR THE OXYGEN MASK!"

No one seems to be real
optimistic....Nearly 60-percent of
frequent travelers

have no confidence the system is going
to get any better anytime soon.
