shooting in the woods in Giles County
visited the people who helped them
today.

the night convicted murderer Randall
Lee Smith shot Scott Johnston and Sean
Farmer.

The two met Smith earlier in the
day and had dinner with him.

Farmer said Smith got up as it
turned dark and called for his dog just
before he opened fire.

while trying to put down one of his
cows.

Because the officer works for the

sheriff's office says Deputy David
Cressel shot Harvey Collins twice last
night.

Collins' family says the
70-year-old man suffered from dementia.

Investigators say the deputy was
responding to a call when Collins
reportedly assaulted him.

The deputy is now on paid,
administrative leave.

According to court records,
Collins had been in trouble with the
law before.

In 2006, he pled guilty to
resisting arrest.

rate hike...

Appalachian Power says
it's not making enough money in
Virginia... and the utility wants to
raise your rates about 25-percent.

dollars to the bill of someone who uses
one thousand kilowatt hours a month.

The company is asking the
state to approve two rate increase
requests within 150 days, so it won't
have to charge higher interim rates,
then issue refunds if the request is
denied.

A lot of energy went into
cleaning up the 400 gallons of gas that
leaked from a propane tank in Bedford
County this afternoon.

Workers were performing
routine maintenance on the tank at
Forestry Equipment of Virginia on Route
460 when a valve broke.

The gas was allowed to
dissipate and no one was hurt.

full fighting a wildfire in Florida.

It has destroyed a number of
homes already, but there are no reports
of injuries.

The cause is still unknown.

causing a stir in Wisconsin.

The only thing is, it was in
Iowa!

Debris from a tornado last
weekend landed more than 100 miles
away.

People were asked to bring the

A military gunship, flying at
tree-top level ...in Roanoke.

It's an extended training mission
for this Air Force helicopter unit.

Known as the Green Hornets,
they're based on the Florida panhandle.

Because the land is flat down
there, they've come here to experience
the challenges of unusual terrain and
higher elevation.

The advance team's been here
since Memorial Day.

They'll be in town through next
week.

plane on a golf course in Wisconsin
today.

It hit a few trees during the

At least two people are dead
after a crane collapsed into an
apartment building this morning in New
York City.

Both men were construction
workers, one was the crane's operator.

This is the second deadly crane

accident there in less than three

Teams of all ages will have their
balls and mallets trying to get as many
wickets in the shortest amount of time.

bigger deal. Gretna is having its best
season in softball since 1981.

Gretna would apply the pressure
