in Pulaski County.

Trailer park, located off Route 11 in
Fairlawn.
Investigators say the deputy was
responding to an assault call, when he
got out of his cruiser, we're told the
deputy was assaulted.

Destin is charged with first degree
murder in the death of Wilber West.
Both men are from Lynch Station.
Investigators believe Destin and
one other person tried to rob West
before killing him.

week after members of West's church

on Leewood Road.

reunite hundreds of children with their
parents.

shooting involving a sheriff's deputy
in Pulaski County.
It happened in Fairlawn off of
route 11 just over the bridge to
Radford.

to an assault call just after 5
yesteray afternoon at the Nicewonder
Way Trailer Park.
Investigators say when the deputy
got out of his vehicle, he was
assaulted by a man holding a knife and
a blunt object.

twice, killing him.
That deputy is now on paid
administrative leave pending an
investigation by the state police.

the native trout population may be in
danger from something completely out of
its control.

Patricia Flebe, a research
biologist has been looking into how a
planetary warm-up would completely
change trout fishing in Southwest
Virginia.
The native brook trout require
water temperatures around 65 degrees to
survive. Many streams are already at
their limits.
As the water temperatures rise,
trees like the hemlock that keep
streams shaded are falling. That
combined with a food source that's
migrating north.
We can't be sure how the trout will
react to climate change. But more
hatcheries like this one in Paint Bank
will likely help keep trout around for

got out of his cruiser, we're told the
deputy was assaulted.

mean all the children will be
immediately returned to their
families....But it does push that
process along.

But the tug-of-war over the more than
400 kids is anything but simple. Even
though the state's highest court agreed
authorities had no right to raid the
ranch 6 weeks ago, the matter now
returns to the San Angelo court where
it
started.

the children essentially all lived
TOGETHER in one household...within the
compound's culture of physical and
sexual abuse...and that if one child
was at risk, then they all were.
But the Texas high justices rejected
it, saying each child's situation needs
to be evaluated on its own.....and
that there are many options short of
splitting up families.

A dissenting opinion from the high
court could provide justification for
retaining custody of some of the
children. Three justices argued that
while
the state had no cause to seize most of
the kids, it may be sensible - at
least temporarily - to hold onto the
girls who appear to be in the greatest
danger of abuse.

children might be released...The only
mandate from the state Supreme Court is
