<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Most of the severe weather has
been staying in northern Virginia this
afternoon, but another wave of storms
will move along a lingering front

through the evening. Some of these have
the potential to produce heavy
downpours, hail, and an isolated
tornado. Storm chances diminish later
tonight, with heat becoming the main
story Thursday and Friday. High
pressure will built in from the south,
pumping in the heat and increasing dew
points to uncomfortable levels.
Afternoon highs will reach the mid 90s,
but factor in the humidity and it will
feel like 100 during the heat of the
day. While no organized storms are
expected over the next several days,
anytime you have that much heat and
humidity, an isolated storm can't be
ruled out. We remain hot and muggy
through the weekend with highs in the
90s under hazy skies.For weather

mstevens@wdbj7.com John Smoltz - Mister
Atlanta Braves - is a big NASCAR fan
and unfortunately for him he'll have
plenty of free time to watch the races
in the coming weeks.

Today the veteran pitcher, who
has been with the Braves for 20 years
announced today that he will have
shoulder surgery next week ending his
season and possibly his career.

He knew in spring training he
wasn't 100 percent, but managed to pull
off five starts.

GRAPHIC=SPRING JUBILEE Somehow most of last night's

State high school quarterfinal games
were played despite the wicked weather
all over the state.

Unfortunately a weather related
incident has cost one team a shot at a
state title.

Last night's James
River-Albemarle Group Three A baseball
game was called after four and a half
innings with James River winning
5-to-4.

Today, the VHSL acknowledged the
umpires, the site director and the
coaches made the wrong decision and
that the VHSL handbook states that a
game must go five complete innings
before it can be called off due to
weather.

Even though the wrong call was

made, the decision will stand and as a
result Albemarle's season is over.

Local police took a run on Route
460 this afternoon, but this wasn't
just exercise.

This is the Virginia Law
Enforcement Torch Run.

There's no torch here, but
officers are carrying a flame more than
2-thousand miles for the Virginia
Special Olympics.

The flame will end up in
Richmond, just in time for opening
ceremonies June 6th.
