Kelly has been in Bedford for 19
years, but he says this final year has
been one of the most challenging,
thanks to issues like the MRSA scare
last fall.
"Unfortunately, I had experienced
those types of crises a couple of other
times in my career. They're always
very difficult, but you always find
strength in the people around you."
And it's the people Roberts and
Kelly say they'll both miss the most.
"There's been a whole lot of good
relationships that have come out of
being here. And I love Staunton
River."
A love the students share too.
After all, how often does the
principal get this many hugs?

APRISA WEATHER MINI OPEN
<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. The heat is the main story
today and Friday. High pressure will
built in from the south, pumping in the
heat and increasing dew points to
uncomfortable levels. Afternoon highs
will reach the mid 90s, but factor in
the humidity and it will feel like 100
during the heat of the day. While no
organized storms are expected over the
next several days, anytime you have
that much heat and humidity, an
isolated storm can't be ruled out. We
remain hot and muggy through the
weekend with highs in the 90s under
hazy skies. THURSDAY: Hazy sunshine.
20% storm. High: 94 THURSDAY NIGHT:
Muggy and partly cloudy. Low: 70 For

they have been all spring long for the
players. But that didn't seem to phase
Hidden Valley's Kristin Harter, who has
been red hot as well this year. She
beat Jefferson Forest's Morgan Huff in
the semi-finals this morning and then
battled Tori Huff in the championship.
Harter would lose Group Two A
girls singles crown to the defending
champ from Lafayette 6-1 and 6-1.
The Group Two A boys'
championship also had some local flavor
from the Ridge Ridge district in the
form of Salem's Patrick O'Keefe. The
talented freshman topped Rockbridge
County's Dominik Lehmann in the
semi-finals in straight sets and then
defeated Jamestown's Elliot Mee 6-3;
6-3 in the title match. O'Keefe takes
home a state championship as a ninth
grader for the Spartans.
Radford also had a young man
battling for a state title today in
Group A singles. Malik Mubeen, who
came into the championship unbeaten
with a 17 and 0 record, left with his
record in tact as he beats Tim Goetz in
straight sets - 6-2 and 7-6. Malik
will now try to help Radford win a
boys' team title.
The team tennis championships
will be on the line tomorrow and
Saturday.
The Radford high boys and girls,
the Hidden Valley girls and Salem boys
all have a shot at taking home titles.
