the Midwest, but it's left behind
dozens of swelling lakes and rivers...
many on the verge of spilling over.


So far, 15 deaths are blamed on the
weather.

Raging floods have left hundreds
homeless....and water is still rising

Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa.



The White River in Indiana is expected
to crest later today 16 feet above

Indiana...cleanup is underway after a


flash flood practically wiped out one
neighborhood.

Along Lake Delton in Wisconsin, much of
the tourist season may have been


washed away when the man-made lake
emptied into the Wisconsin River. Lake

especially at risk of

because the classrooms are just too

Texas COULD be the first death linked
to the salmonella outbreak.


Authorities say the man got sick
after eating a tomato- based condiment.


They say cancer killed him, but
salmonella played a role.

looking for the


source of the salmonella outbreak in 17
states, including Virginia, which is
linked to three types of raw tomatoes.


In a NEW figure...officials now say

U-S earned 36-billion dollars -- just

the first three months of this year.
Now -- lawmakers are looking at


imposing a windfall profits tax on
those companies. And, possibly taking


away the 17-billion dollars in tax
breaks they expect to receive over the


next decade.

off about their solutions.

The rising cost of gas has already put
the brakes on some drivers' travel


habits... And there could be more
changes ahead. Some economists predict

the price at the pump could spike to
6-dollars a gallon, later this summer.

File Tape Governor Tim Kaine yesterday
commuted the sentence of Percy Levar
Walton to life in prison.


Walton killed three people
in Danville back in 1996, pleaded
guilty and was sentenced to death.


But questions about his
mental capacity kept the case in the
courts.

ruled in 2006 that Walton could be
executed, Governor Kaine said Walton's
mental condition has worsened.


Kaine says executing him would

was raised last night for the Roanoke
Police officer who was left paralyzed
after a run in with a suspect nearly a
month ago.

for a benefit concert at Blue 5 in
downtown Roanoke to raise money for
Officer Bryan Lawrence.


The local band solrevolt played
for nearly three hours and this was
especially personal for the band


members because many of them are also
police officers.

admiration for Officer Lawrence.

from a fire hydrant outside a poultry
plant.


A tractor trailer driver accidentally
ran over the hydrant after
miscalculating a turn as he arrived at
the plant. .


Police shut down the intersection
and diverted traffic... the water has
since been turned off.

system that has been delivering the
June extreme heat is slowly weakening
and drifting off the coast. This will
allow a cold front to approach from the
west, increasing the clouds and also
shower chances over the next several
days. We have one more hot one today
before temperatures begin the slow walk
downward. Look for highs Tuesday around
95 in Roanoke, with continued high
humidity. Clouds will increase with a
few afternoon showers and storms.
Wednesday through Friday, look for
partly cloudy skies with an occasional
afternoon shower/storm, and highs
reaching the upper 80s. The weekend
looks about the same, with an afternoon

University to showcase its facilities.

"A" levels on the Radford University
Campus this past Saturday at the VHSL
Spring Jubliee. It is the 7th season
that R-U has hosted the event. And the
Cooperation of all the parties involved
mirrors that of the teams taking part
on the playing fields.

The Virginia High School League
has recently been expanding their
playoffs, they added another level to
the Single "A" State Basketball
Championships this past season and will
do so at the Double "A" level beginning
next season.


The possiblity exsists that the
same thing could happen for the Spring
Sports, doubling the amount of games
that Radford would have to host.

be held June 4th through the 6th on

rising high school seniors right after
their June football camp.


That's once again the case, as
the Hokies got 2 oral commitments over
the weekend and a third one yesterday.

Football Extra standont and Giles High
School Spartan Cody Journell.


The Kicker attended the camp in
Blacksburg and left with a scholarship
offer, which he accepted.


Journell has a strong leg,
kicking a 54 yard field goal this past
season.


He was selected as a First Team All-
State Selection by the Associated Press
in 2007.


Journell also plays running back
for the Spartans.


Tech will be looking for a new
Kicker this season, having to replace
Jud Dunleavy-- last year's starter.
