convicted killer William Morva
OFFICIALLY heard his fate yesterday in
a Christiansburg courtroom.

for killing two people.


A judge upheld the jury's
decision from back in March.


A jury found him guilty of
killing Montgomery County Sheriff's
deputy Eric Sutphin and hospital
security guard Derrick McFarland as he
escaped custody at Montgomery Regional
Hospital.


Morva lead police on a 37- hour
manhunt that terrorized the Virginia
Tech campus.

the weekend...A man stabbed himself in
the chest, cut his girlfriend's arm and
then led police on a manhunt.


Charles Daniel McCroskey of
Christiansburg went on the run and was
then arrested Sunday.


He's charged with attempted
malicious wounding and malicious
wounding.


Both McCroskey and his girlfriend
were treated at the hospital and
released.


He's in jail without bond.

Snowden.


Forestry officials say jumping
from the bridge is something people

may consider the idea.

victim's widows - Cindy McFarland spoke
up in open court and told Morva he
deserved to quote "burn in hell."


She was escorted out of the
courtroom.


Morva went on saying some bizarre
things like his name not William Morva
but Nemo.


Morva's mother cried as he said
there would be others like him that
would wipe the smiles off everyone's
faces.


Ultimately, Judge Ray Grubbs
upheld the jury's recommendation of
death calling Morva's actions selfish.

like a firecracker going off.


Burrell seemed a little
uncertain, when he identified Reginald

GRAPHIC= SCOUT PROJECT What would have taken years to


complete will only take one week,
thanks to about 750 Boy Scouts that are
in the area.


The boy scouts are fixing up over
40 miles of existing trails, and


creating 14 miles of new trails.

work going on at the Alleghany
Highlands multi- user trail and also at
the Sugar Ridge campground near Lake
Moomaw.


The project has been in the works
for about four years.


It's a team effort between the
most elite boy scouts known as the
Order of the Arrow and the National
Forest Service.

plan before a joint session of the
legislature.


He's calling for an one- percent
increase in the tax on vehicle sales
along with a ten- dollar increase in
vehicle registration fees.


The governor called on lawmakers
to put politics aside and take action.


Yesterday, business
representatives stood in support of his
plan.


Outside.... Anti- tax supporters,


including a bus- load from the Roanoke
Valley rallied.
