Radio host Don Imus is under fire, yet

he made while discussing NFL player
Pacman Jones with sportscaster Warner

"He's also been arrested six times
since being drafted by Tennessee in
2005."
"What color is he?"
"He is African-American."
"Well, there you go. Now we know."
The statements quickly drew criticism,
but this morning... Imus responded
saying he was trying to make a
sarcastic point about Jones being
picked on by
police.
sot: Don Imus/Radio Host
"What people should be outraged about
is that they arrest blacks for no
reason."
(Kathryn Brown Bridge/New York City)
Imus ' current job here at WABC
follows a huge controversy last year.
He
was fired from MSNBC and CBS Radio for
making sexist and racist remarks about
the Rutgers women's basketball team.
The long-time radio personality
apologized numerous times and vowed to
clean
up his act when he went back on the
air. Several members of his new staff
are African-Americans.
sot: Imus again
"How insane would I be, what would I be
thinking."
Some black leaders have seen enough.
sot: Charles Barron/New York City

"When you are that blatantly racist,
you don't need to be on the air-waves.
You need therapy."
Pacman Jones says he's upset about the
comments and plans to pray for Imus.
His bosses at WABC and Citadel
Broadcasting say it is unlikely they
will take
disciplinary action.

THAT'S WHY JAPAN IS LEADING THE QUEST

Being able to drill for in their own

Frozen gas is not the CURE FOR

Japan estimates it has enough reserves

the fuel will start flowing for

CHRISTOPHER BRODER HAS BEEN A UPS
DRIVER FOR NEARLY 25 YEARS.
(SOT, 2:00:55 INSIDE TRUCK)
susan : so when ups came to you and
said from now on we are only making
right
turns, what did you think?
Christopher broder/ups driver: i'll try
it. My first instinct was am I going
to be driving in a circle all day?
(VO)
IT MAY SOUND WEIRD, BUT AFTER YEARS
OF RESEARCH -- UPS DISCOVERED THAT WHEN
ITS TRUCKS MADE MOSTLY RIGHT TURNS
THEY ACTUALLY DELIVERED BETTER GAS
MILEAGE.
(SOT IN TRUCK CAM 2:02:39)
Susan: what's the biggest difference
that you notice with right turns?
Chris: i'm not stopping a lot. I mean I
stop at stop signs but I don' t have
to wait for traffic from both ways
coming against me.
Chris: (2:03:15) you're not sitting
there idling waiting for traffic to
clear.
(VO)
I TAGGED ALONG WITH CHRIS ON ONE OF
HIS ROUTES...
AND WE MADE LOTS OF RIGHT TURNS
(SOT 2:15:05 IN TRUCK)
SUSAN: so where are we off to now?
Chris: up the street we're going to
make a right.
Susan: of course.
(VO)
INSTEAD OF WASTING GAS SITTING IN
TRAFFIC.... AVOIDING LEFT TURNS
KEEPS
TRUCKS MOVING....AND DRIVERS HAVE FOUND
THEY MAKE DELIVERIES FASTER BY GOING
RIGHT ....AND THAT'S ALL GOOD NEWS FOR
UPS' BOTTOM LINE.
(SOT, LAURA TAPE 2:07:40)
SUSAN: so by turning right, how much
are you saving in gas.
LAURA: well for 2007 alone, we saved
over 3.3 million gallons of gasoline.
Sk: that's a lot.
LJ: it's a huge amount and we also
shaved off a total of over 30 million
travel miles for our drivers.
(VO)
BUT -- WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY --
YES, DRIVERS ARE ALLOWED TO MAKE A
DETOUR.
(SOT, 2:01:59 IN TRUCK CAM)
SUSAN: we're turning left. is this a
sanctioned left?
chris: this is a sanctioned left.
susan: you can turn here.
