Last Night Tara Wheeler crowned last night
at the Civic Center describes herself
as somewhat of a tom-boy.


She played ice hockey for years,
participated in ROTC at Penn State and
almost went into the air force.


But after a dare from her mother
to do something a little more girlie,
the Arlington resident decided to enter
a pageant her junior year in college.


For the next year Wheeler's
platform will be "breaking stereotypes,
building leaders".

have discovered the massive
century-and-a-half-old Tulip Poplar is
suffereing from irreparable root damage


and has to come down.


Officials have had the argument
of whether the tree needed to be cut
down since the early 20th Century.

grounds keepers hollowed out the tree,
leaving only 17 percent wood standing.

area today as a strong cold front heads
our way out of the Ohio Valley. Another
warm and humid day with highs slated in
the mid 80s. Winds will be
southwesterly around 10-15mph.


Strong to severe storms may develop
throughout the day. Gusty winds are the
primary threat with these storms;
however, small hail and heavy downpours
are also of concern.


Lows Sunday night are forecast in the
low to mid 60s. Skies slowly clear as
most showers end overnight. Patchy fog

The payoff is Monday with lower

But before they are enshrined in
Canton, Ohio Art Monk and Darrell Green
are using their big names and their
even bigger hearts to help
underpriviledged kids in the DC Metro
area with their Route 281 road to
Canton tour.


Green's number was 28 and Monk's
was 81 - thus the choice of 281.

Willilams Stadium But this afternoon the choice was
to be in Lynchburg on the campus of
Liberty University.


Monk and Green brought along some
of their former Redskins' teammates to
mingle with fans and sign autographs.


Brian Mitchell, Dexter Manley,
Joe Jacoby, Mark Moseley and Pulaski's
own Gary Clark.


Fans had to pay for the
signatures with all of the proceeds
going to Green's Youth Life Foundation


and Monk's Good Samaritan foundation.


Monk played 16 years in the NFL
while Green's career spanned 20
seasons.

decades of futility.


And who knew that this amazing
individual effort in the first half
would be all the Spaniards would need.


Fernando Torres beats the
fullback and the goalie in the 33rd
minute with this aggressive play to put
Spain in front 1-to- *CG final Spain nothing. The single goal would hold 1 up as the Spaniards win their first Germany European title since 1964 beating 0 Germany 1 to nothing.

closed out a big weekend of racing in
New Hampshire this afternoon with the


Lenox Industrial Tools 301.


The track in Loudon can be tough
on brakes as witnessed by the amount of
brake dust that was in the air during
pit stops.

right side tires during this stop early
in the race.


Dario Franchitti's eventful and
often forgettable rookie season
continued to head south as he ended up
in the spin cycle and the wall once
again this afternoon.


Getting in the pits was also an
adventure. Watch Jamie McMurray run
all over Dale Junior who was slowing
down trying to enter pit road.
McMurray later admitted he never even
saw Junior's car.


Juan Pablo Montoya and Kyle Busch
did see each other as they traded paint
before Montoya admitted that he
intentionally turned into Busch


wrecking both drivers.


Tony Stewart and his crew were
the best on the day in the pits and on
the track as Stewart led a race high
126 laps.


But with just 17 laps to go the
rain arrived in New Hampshire and the
race was called after 284 laps.


That was exactly what Kurt Busch
wanted to hear as he gambled and won
the rain shortened event for his first
win since August of 2007.

Horse Show came to a close last night
in Salem with the 50 thousand dollar
Grand Prix.


The legendary Aaron Vale was
after his 10th win in the Grand prix.

Last Night Vale rode three horses in the :00 show, including Aristide and Danacar,
but he had to settle for 5th place.


Tracey Fenney of Flower
Mound, Texas also had three entries in

aboard S&L Willie, besting Hillary
Simpson in the jump off and claiming
the 15 thousand dollar first prize.
